HomeMy WebLinkAbout2782 Memorandum, J. Lawrence Carney to Building Committee of the Lexington High School, concerning work to be done on the grounds, October 18, 1902 Boston, Oct. 18, 1902.
'i'o the Buildin_!- Comuittee of the
Lexington_ High School.
Gentlemen: -
Confizing the understanding reached
with your Committee at its meeting last evening, I beg to say that
for the sure of three hundred dollars (%;;300) in addition_ to the
twelve hundred dollars (' )1200) specified in my existing grading
and planting contract with the town_, I will waive all claims for
extra work already done in connection_ with the job , and all claims
for extra compensation_ based upon errors in the locating of the
grade stakes , and will also do the following extra work:
(1) Convert the octagonal shaped turning-places in th e
,driveways at the ends of the building into circular or oblong
turning-places; to this end enlarging and shaping them substan-
tially in accordance with the outline traced on the ground yester-
day in the presence of the Architect, 111r. Clapp and myself. If,
In
order to Make the proper en_larger ent of the turning-place at
the southeasterly end of the building , it is necessary to put in
additional filling on the outer edge of the driveway or turning-
Cm,I will do so.
(2) Grade , properly dress with loam, and seed: down the space
between the edge of the sidewalk and the edge of the travelled way
across the front of the school-house lot; including in this work
one row of sods placed next to the sidewalk s edge .
(3) Raise the surface of the grade in the central front
portion of the lot , so that the finished surface , instead of slight-
ly descending from the edge of the sidewalk toward the school-Douse,
shall gently rise; it being understood that the Architects stake
now set about twelve feet from the sidewalk shall be raised so as
to call for a finished grade about four and one-half inches higher
than at present. The necessary amount of good loam to produce
this rise in grade shall be furnished and spread by myself.
In correcting inequalities and raising low places found by
the Architect in the portions of the graded work that are already
substantially finished, and generally in completing the job , I am
to conform to what shall be pointed out or_ the ground by !,.,Ir. Coop-
er as the true grade lines, rather than to the stakes heretofore
set by Peirce & Barnes. The rear portion_ of the lot , and the
ends , are to be treated as required by stir. Cooper, and in other
respects the job is to be completed in accordance with the require-
ments of the existing contract and specifications.
The above mentioned three hundred dollars covers also the
work which I have done in building a new dry well , and connecting
the same with the foot of conductor pipe. For this I was to re-
ceive twenty-five dollars (25) ; but this is now included in the
above three hundred. dollars.
It is understood, finally , that I ais not to be required to
i
extend the macadam driveway further` than the edge of the sidewalk.
Respectfully subb
itted,
7r-
The foregoing is correct and accepted.
