Present: Bonnie Teitleman, Ellen Cameron, Betty Borghesani,Julie-Ann Shapiro,John Zhao, Sudhir Jain,
Rich McDonough, Gerry Howell,Jyotsna Kakullavarapu, Camille Goodwin, and Suzie Barry
Staff: Michelle Kelleher, Hemali Shah, Melissa Interess,Christine Dean
Public Comments: Gary Fallick noted success of Knox Box program
Approval of August minutes
Staff Reports:
Hemali Shah-Assistant Director
• Knox boxes great. Alicia Grunes doing assessments, meeting more people
• MA Conference of Aging 10/2,3,4 for staff and board members who are interested.
Michelle Kelleher-Senior Services Coordinator
• August Senior Appreciation Day on patio successful, BBQ sponsored by Lion's Club attended by
Congresswoman Katherine Clark, State Rep Michelle Ciccolo,Town manager Jim Malloy, and
Assistant Town Manager Kelly Axtell
• September Kate D'Angelo will be hosting Drum Alive program
Melissa I nteress-Di rector
• Tony Serio and Michelle Kelleher creating Budgeting 101 for all ages
• Met with MLK service committee to plan for MLK Day; will have high school students volunteer
again
Sharon Gunda-Outreach Coordinator
• October is Domestic Violence month;will have posters throughout town for special event where
Lisa Goodman, Boston College faculty,will speak on domestic violence 10/17
Christine Dean
• Summer wrap-up, 8/17 endo of summer party; 3000+youth served at Comm Center, couple
hundred volunteers, 2 great interns who updated website and helped w/marketing
• Children's Place up and running
• Sidewalk project with DPW for entrance out for bid; DPW will install walkway in back to
courtyard
• Harvest Festival 9/28, Haunted House 10/25-31
New Business
Betty: Meet and Greet 10/2 at 1:30 before COA Board; spoke to Pat Costello and Vicky Dyer re: property
tax exemptions programs;
Liason Reports
Reviewed town boards to which we might consider COA liaison,Julie Ann will look at agendas and see if
someone might attend; Ellen and Rich need not attend FCOA as Sudhir is now a board member. Will
add Lexington Center(Bonnie will go in November), Special Permits (Rich) and Tax Deferral (Rich and
John will share)
Minuteman Senior Services-Gary Fallick-will offer 4 Healthy Living Programs (Balance, Chronic Disease,
Pain, Matter of Balance)
Transport-Sudhir reports traffic congestion, Charlie Cards offered 9/18, Lexpress 401h anniversary 9/21
11-12:30 at Depot,Transportation open house 10AM-3PM
FCOA-Sudhir- FCOA Sponsored Walk with Ease program by paying for instructor; OWL offering 7 classes
in fall
Commission on Disability-Bonnie-working on statement on diversity and inclusion, statement to
selectmen
Special Permit-Jyotsna attended on zoning, suggestions for affordable housing, need to talk to more
builders, creative ideas,town workers should have affordable hosing
Mental Health-meeting 9/20
Age Friendly-meeting 9/25 with UMass staff
