HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-09-18-LEX250-minSemiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) September 18 2024 Meeting Minutes Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) convened in a hybrid format in the Parker Room at the Town Office Building and via Zoom video conference on Wednesday September 18, 2024 at 4:30 by Ms. Barry as allowed by legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. Present in person: Suzie Barry, Select Board Member, Chair Noah Michelson, Community Representative, Clerk Cleve Coats, Community Representative Steve Conners, Reenactment Community Representative Barry Cunha, Business Representative Jane Hundley, LPS 6-8 Social Science Department Head Cerise Jalelian, Town Celebrations Committee Representative Melanie Lin, Community Representative Doug Lucente, Select Board Member Jillian Tung, Music & Arts Representative Present remotely: Mona Roy, Community Representative, Vice Chair Bebe Fa!lick, Tourism Committee Representative Julie O'Leary, Civic Representative Paul O'Shaughnessy, Historical Organization Representative Ashley Rooney, Community Representative Cpt. John Mazerall, LPD Sgt. David Bresnihan, LPD Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation & Community Programs Staff from John Guilfoil Public Relations (JGPR) • The meeting was called to order at 4:31 PM by Ms. Barry • Riding Through History Update o Horses are done, with a reveal event this Saturday starting at 10AM at the post office. • All four artists will be in attendance, and news media will be there for coverage. o JGPR has created a landing page for the project with pages detailing each horse. • QR codes will be posted that lead to the landing page. • Parker's Prelude o Mass Ave will close at 10AM from the minuteman statue to Harrington Rd. ■ Parking spots along the closed section of Mass Ave. will house Wilson's Farm, public safety equipment, and 10-15 classic cars. o Portapotties have been ordered. o There will possibly be a soundcheck Friday morning. o Volunteers ■ All volunteer slots are filled. o Weather Plan ■ Rain location is a combination of the LHS auditorium and Commons 1. ■ Decision to be made by Friday at 10AM. • Drone Show Update o Sunday October 20 at 7PM o The event is sponsored by a private citizen, and presented by Firefly Drone Shows. o A storyboard has been created for the program. o The production will start at 6:30 and include Lexington Minuemen, William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum, Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums, and the Lexington High School band. ■ Possible artillery accompanying drone visual of a cannon. o Drone show group is working on creating directed seating areas for ideal viewing angles. o Drone show will take place from 7:00-7:20. o Show will be followed by a possible parade to a group photo on Battle Green. o Ms. Barry moves that the commission hold a light event on the Green following the October 20th program, subject to SB approval ■ Motion is seconded. ■ Motion passes by a vote of 14 - 1 o A Save the Date needs to be published ASAP. o A sound system is still needed for the scripted production. Drone show group will check to see if Firefly has one or if the football field system could be used. • Monument Update o Meeting with Monuments and Memorials went well; a straw poll vote was unanimously in favor. o Changes have made based on feedback from SB and HDC ■ Location was moved, possible alterations to color, reduced in size, etc. o There is a Select Board meeting on 01/7, and an HDC meeting on 10/10. o A suggestion was made to do in person outreach to the general community with pictures of the proposed monument in order to gain feedback to present to boards. • Housekeeping o Next meeting topics ■ Sara Bothwell Allen will be joining to discuss a possible volunteering program. ■ Drone show update ■ Other Lexingtons update ■ School update ■ MEMA update • Next meeting: Wednesday, September 25 • The meeting was adjourned at 6:02 Respectfully Submitted, Noah Michelson
