The meeting was called to order at 8:06 AM.
1) The Committee reviewed and approved the meeting minutes of August 23,
2018 by a vote of 4-0.
2) Review draft replacement for the Sustainable Design Policy
The committee received an alternate draft update to the Sustainable Design Policy from
the Town Manager for discussion. Committee members made the following
observations:
• The policy should identify areas of value to Lexington—what is significant—and
for there to be a good faith effort to fund a proper implementation.
• The policy should set expectations. Too great a focus on costs may lead to
minimizing upfront investments at the expense of long-term operational costs.
We should avoid the temptation to be locked into conventional solutions.
• It is important for the design teams to have the necessary skills to properly
evaluated and execute to the goals.
There was consensus that defining the project team was an important early task. The
team should be created before design is begun and that it contains at least one
individual with identifiable sustainability credentials.
