History of commercial zoning in Lexington- Charles Hornig
Planning Board Liaison Charles Horning presented an overview of historic zoning in Lexington.
Star?ng from 1924, the presenta?on delved through the decades, and included the
introduc?ons of zoning for manufacturing, life sciences, hotel districts, and explored how
Lexington got to where it is today. Discussion also ensued surrounding Planned Development
Districts, Hartwell Ave and Spring Street, and recent changes with MBTA Communi?es Zoning.
The discussion concluded with remarks about cost of construc?on, and Lexington’s commercial
tax rate.
ED Office Updates- including Business Toolkit Update
Town of Lexington staff provided brief updates about current vacancies, and showed the
Business Toolkit to the commi?ee. Staff asked the Economic Development Advisory Commi?ee
to review the document and come to the next mee?ng with feedback about the Toolkit.
EDAC future events
Sam Ang discussed opportuni?es to bring large companies together for events in Lexington. He
expressed interest in reaching out directly to engage CEOs, and said he would work with staff to
do so.
Commi?ee members discussed holding regular mee?ngs for consistency. Staff will send out a
poll to determine whether the third Tuesday or Thursday will be be?er for the commi?ee.
