Milllie Webster (nonvoting) The January 15 meeting minutes were approved unanimously. Reports/Updates Patriots Day Parade, April 18: Stephen, Bob, Daisy, Keith, and Eileen volunteered to march in the parade. ACROSS Challenge: 93 people have completed the Challenge. When 100 have completed, Gil Benghiat will publicize in the Lexington Observer. Peggy suggested the Lexington Times also. Mike noted that the map on the Challenge website is out of date - suggested linking to the ACROSS website to always be up to date. Traffic Safety Advisory Group: Peggy reported that the Recreation Department is proposing two athletic fields at the Harrington school site that will accommodate cricket in addition to other sports. The plan includes a crosswalk on Maple Street. The issue of how the proposed ACROSS route will pass through the area is unresolved at this point. Safe Routes to School: Bobak and Peggy are drafting a letter expressing GCC’s concerns about pedestrian/vehicle interactions which will be circulated within the GCC before our next meeting. Ongoing Business Route 8/Concord Avenue: Keith reported that he and Mike had a good meeting with the Planning Board at which was discussed the disposition of $20,000 that had been set aside in 2007 as part of the Lexington Hills subdivision for the construction of a sidewalk along Walnut Street and crossing to Cart Path Lane. Inasmuch as a sidewalk or path is now considered impractical, the funds might be made available for the boundary surveying and the crosswalk at Concord Avenue. In addition, the unused $30,000 set-aside from the Waterstone development might also be available for the crosswalk. 114 Wood Street: Mike reported that the developer of the property is scheduled to present at the April Planning Board meeting and appears to be proposing a trail for ACROSS at the end of a planned cul- de-sac which would connect with an existing social trail on MMNHP land. Alternative trail possibilities involve wetlands, power line constraints, proximity to dwellings, increased up and down, and signage restrictions. To be continued. Brochure Redesign Update: Keith prefaced by noting the considerable time and effort Mike has expended on the new brochure. Mike then displayed the text/photo side of the new brochure, noting that it is the same size as the existing one and has the same fold pattern. The folds may coincide with some pictures/text, but this is not deemed a significant problem. Important issues to be resolved are the content and maintenance of the linked Facebook page and a means of contributing photos for future editions. Facebook discussion included means of removing the old page, alternate social media, as well the overall purpose of the page. If it is to be a place to post new hazards and complaints, close monitoring and responsiveness is required, which was considered too demanding at present. Rather, employ it for general publicity, encouraging users to post photos and comments with no expectation of reply. Peggy took a group photo for an initial posting. Bobak will come up with a few word descriptor of the page for the brochure. Contributing photos for future editions can be done either on the town website, if the town’s IT department is able to take on the workload of setting it up and maintaining it, which is under consideration, or on a purposed gmail account monitored by a GCC volunteer. After some discussion of the time involved and spam concerns, Mike volunteered to to take on the gmail task if the town does not step forward before the brochure goes to print. We decided to defer discussion of the Memorial Bench Program and the Destination Sign Program to the next meeting. Peggy brought up a topic for discussion at a future meeting - a one day “arts outside“ event along ACROSS trails, similar to the one held in 2016 at which some 65 artists exhibited their work along and near the Bikeway. Such an event might be a collaboration with the Lexington Council for the Arts. In any case, it would require a spirited organizer who need not be an artist. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 pm. Next Meeting: March 19, 2026 in the Parker Room, Town Hall Minutes by Bob Hausslein
