Review of Lexington Economic Development Trends Melissa presented the Economic Development Trend Report with committee members providing comments and feedback a) Do total number of employees include public school and town pubic employees? There is a need to confirm. When counting private employment, town government and school should be excluded. b) The increase of office space is comparable to neighboring towns in percentage, but small in absolute sq footage compare to Waltham and Burlington c) There is little lab/office space renovation compared to the residential housing, this contributed to the smaller increase of commercial assessed value. d) Lincoln Lab on the federal side, no tax is levied. e) Various tax incentives/abatements were provided to businesses f) Lexington office/lab space vacancy rate (5% – 10%) is in normal range. g) Small businesses are paying the same as large businesses but may not have incentive and abatements. 2. Gantt chart update: Gantt chart is a large spreadsheet, it’s not convenient to post to the website. A snapshot of the chart converted to PDF can be emailed to members 1 3. Lexington Next website update Up and running now. 4. Approval of 6/5 minutes Members unanimously approved the 6/5 minutes 5. Next Meeting The 7/3 meeting is cancelled due to the 7/4 Holiday. Rescheduled to 7/9. 6. The meeting is adjourned at 8:55pm. 2
