John P Merriam To the Town Clerk and also to the assessors of this town of Lexington This is to give each of you notice that certain real estate in this town of Lexington Middlesex County, Massachusetts late belonging to Rufus Meriam late of said Lexington deceased, and devised by him to Martha Meriam Eliza Meriam, Emelia Meriam, Mary Meriam all of said, Lexington, being four fifths of all the real estate said Rufus Meriam died, seized, of, was conveyed by said, devises to me by deed - dated the seventh day of November eighteen hundred and forty nine & recorded November 17th 1849. and that said Conveyance four fifths of all indebtedness of the estates of the said Rufus Meriam to me was included therein and extinguished, and that I am in possession of said real estates and require and notify you that the same is to be assessed to me and not to the said Heirs or devises. I further give you notice that I have a Power of attorney of the above-named heirs and devises of said Rufus Meriam dated this seventh day of November eighteen [LEFT PAGE] hundred and forty nine with full powers in the management of all their estate and as such attorney and by authority of said heirs and devises hereby notify the said assessors that the said estate has been conveyed to John P. Meriam and they direct and require that the same shall be assessed to the said Meriam and not to them The estate embraced in the above notice is described as follows, which I give in order that you may not assess the same to the said devises Viz: One tract or parcel of land, adjoining the Rail Roads depot & concord road &c. containing fifteen acres One other tract or parcel of land, adjoining the old road leading to Bedford near Daniel Cummings house containing thirty one acres. One other piece of land, bounded westerly by land of Benj. Reed & easterly by Mr. Pierces land, containing two acres. One other piece of land, bounded easterly by land of Mr Pierce and southerly by land of Benjamin Reed. The two last described lots are near the house of James Pierce. This lot contains six & half acres. [RIGHT PAGE] One other tract of land, bounded southerly by the Ministerial land & northerly by land of Mr. Richardson containing ten acres & nine rods.
