To Messrs. Samuel Downing and Abel Butterfield two disinterested
and discreet persons both of Lexington in said County. Greeting
You are hereby appointed and impowered to ascertain and determine
upon Oath the amount of Costs and expenses which have arisen in consequence
of Albert W. Bryant Field Driver of Lexington having Distrained
Nine Cows and impounded the same in the town Pound in Said Lexington
the said cows having been distrained and impounded by him
for going at large contrary to law in the town of Lexington on the
twenty ninth day of Oct'r in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty
two Said Bryant having given notice of of Said distraining and impounding
as the law requires, and no person appearing to claim
said cows or defray the costs and expences incurred by distraining
and impounding the same, you will ascertain and determine
all costs and expences which have arisen or may arise for Notifying
keeping and selling by Public Auction said cows up to
the town of Sale of the same, also a reasonable sum for your
Services and all legal demands relating to said distraining
And you are to make return of this Warrant with your doings
thereon into the Town Clerks Office of Said Lexington within seven
days from the date hereof ~ Given under my hand and seal this
twenty sixth day of November In the year of our Lord One thousand

before me and made Oath to the faithful discharge of the
duty assigned them by the foregoing Warrant

We the Subscribers have this day attended
the duty assigned us by the foregoing warrant
and examined and find the amount to be as
follows Viz. Oct 29 th 1842 To distraining 9 cows
from going at large contrary to law at fifty
cents each-- $4.50
Nov 1st- To notifying supposed owner and also
for posting notice in Lexington, Bedford, Burlington
and travelling fees and notices to the pound
keeper ---- $4.00
Nov 18th expenses for causing a notice to be published in
the Lowell Journal and for leaveing a notice of
the expense with the pound keeper 3.00
Nov 26- posting notice of sale in town. -- 1.00
Nov 28 - expenses of selling the above named cows 2.50
Oct 29 th pound keepers fees .36
Oct 29th- 2 Tubs --.30
Nov 28 - Hay and stover-- 24.86
Nov 28 - feeding and watering said cows from the
29 of Oct to the 28th of Nov inclusive at 33 cts per day 9.90
Nov 26 - Town Clerk for Warrant & services - 1.00
Nov 26 - appraisers services - 1.00
