the county of Middlesex in Session at
Concord, this third tuesday of September 1840
The Petition of William P. Gibbs & others
humbly shews that the old road beginning
at the Middlesex Turnpike near T. Munroes
barn to said Turnpike near B Fisk's [Fiske's] barn in
Lexington, also from said Turnpike near the
house of O. Winship in Lexington to the in
tersection of the said old road with said
Middlesex Turnpike near the foot of Gilbow [Gallows]
Hill so called in West Cambridge is narrow
Circuitous & inconvenient. They therefore
pray that said Commissioners would proceed
to widen said pieces of road & make a new
piece of highway in said West Cambridge
as public convenience & necessity requires
They also pray that said County
Commissioners will discontinue a piece of old
road beginning near the house of Reuben
Reed in said Lexington passing over Break
neck brook so called to the intersection of
said old road with said Middlesex
Turnpike
And as in duty bound will ever pray.

Middlesex, ss. At a meeting of the County Commission-
ers for said County, at Concord on the
third Tuesday of September
A.D. 1840.
On the foregoing petition, Ordered that the Sheriff of said County or his
Deputy give notice to all persons and corporations interested therein, that said
Commissioners will meet for the purpose of viewing the premises and hearing the
parties at the House of Thaddeus Monroes[?] in Lexington
on the 25th day of Novembr next at 9 oclock A.M.
by serving the town Clerks of Lexington & West Cambridge
each with a copy of said petition and this order there-on,
thirty days at least before said view, and by publishing the same in the
Bunker Hill Aurora printed at Charlestown, three weeks succes-
sively, the last publication to be fourteen days at least before said view; and also
by posting the same in two public places in each of said towns of Lexington &
West Cambridge fourteen days before said view ' and that they make re
turn of the doings herein, to said Commissioners, at the time and place fixed for
