III. Clarke K/L/D/I Planning Template & Superintendent's Strategic Planning Process
a. Shared with Site Council, January Professional Learning had the staff focus on the K=keep,
L=lose, D=dream, I=innovate protocol
b. In Clarke we broke into six small groups, led by building administrators and department heads.
We reviewed different strategic plans, identified the need and purpose of a strategic plan and
then proceeded with the K/L/D/I Planning Template
c. March PD,just last week. We reviewed all of the Clarke data from the January PD day. This
time Clarke staff in much smaller groups 6-8 people (17 groups) and the focus was to review the
data and look at priorities for PLC level/Team level, School level, and the District level.
d. Focus for site council to look at the school level
• parents identify more printers, therapy dogs and more color printers as "low hanging
fruit" and easily accessible - is there a possibility for LEF funding or PTO funding?
• parent concerns - identify snacks for after school and longer lines at lunch. Possibility
of pre-ordering lunches (like LHS app where kids to order lunch)
• Principal acknowledge ability of Enriching Students software to allow students to sign
themselves up for WIN and use the time we have reserved for sign up (12 minutes) and
use after C block for a break/free time.
• Teachers suggest that allowing outside area supervised
• Discussion over time of WIN - would we move it to end of day? Concern over students
leaving and not using the time for help/break as it was intended.
• Teacher- suggest for WIN every day as many students who are taking band/orchestra
and have full schedules, don't have the opportunity to run around or just be kids for a
few minutes.
• Principal acknowledges the need to have more "down"time so that students can adjust
as well as how difficult it is to go "class to class"without a break. Shares time that
followed an 8th grader and truly understood what it is like for a day. Difficulty without
snack, time for bathroom break, etc.
• Parent suggestion that one block a day is longer and the 15 minutes extra time become a
non-academic snack and chat time.
• Teacher- it might help to have a menu of items that are acceptable for faculty to do/use
with students. (e.g. yoga, snack)
• Parent- appreciated the teachers that do offer non-academic WIN courses (e.g. outside,
Disney, etc).
• Teacher- acknowledged that there used to be more non-academic offerings.
• Teacher- we need to do a better job encouraging this and advertising what we are doing.
• Principal - shares implementation of WIN and how had to convince others.
