II. Announcements/updates/discussion
• Online Behavior
o Principal Stephens sent a letter to the LHS community last Friday outlining the most recent
incidents of inappropriate online behavior that started early last week and is under
investigation as of Thursday 5/2.
o Several incidences of inappropriate social media postings have occurred this year. These have
involved screen shots of peer-to-peer communications that have been passed on and it is
often difficult to identify the source, the intent of the source, the initial date of the posting
(can be recent or years old) . There may be growth of the original poster since the original
posting, but the post can be resurrected.
o Recent separate incidents were related to race and included inappropriate use of the n -word
and racist symbols.
o Concern for the affected students and impact on learning for them.
o This is a climate and culture issue beyond the school and into the community. The derogatory
language used applies to many contexts beyond the school.
o These social media posts spread very rapidly even as school officials are being alerted.
o The school has an obligation to provide a safe learning environment for all students.
o School administration will focus on developing ways to address these issues next year as part
of the diversity, equity and inclusion work.
• Budget/FTE — started the hiring process for FTEs starting in September. Identifying ways to hire
