• College & Career planning programming (LHS S.I.P.1.6)
Stacy Glickman made a presentation outlining the mission and vision for the LHS Counseling
department. She presented goals to support students at LHS with clinical and academic programming
and services, and post -secondary planning and support. Student and parent surveys have been used to
identified desired programming. The department has developed a college counseling handbook and
website to provide consistent information to students and families. Programming to support students
who are the first generation in their family to attend college in the US is being developed. Budget
includes funding for counselors to run summer workshops on the college application process (e.g.
testing, application process, essay, activity resume) for students and to schedule one-on-one
appointment. College application support in I block this year was helpful to seniors and reduced
stress. Would like to develop further programming on gap year, study outside the US, internship
opportunities, financial aid and transition counseling. Exploring effective communication to students
via seminars, homeroom, Twitter, email and I block.
LHS supports and intervention services around social, emotional, and mental health (LHS
S.I.P. 2.1)
Department data and surveys have identified the need to focus on Freshman transition programming.
The programming at the end of 8th grade has been expanded to include an evening for parents and
students and course selection and self -scheduling in small groups. The Counseling department is
developing a Freshman welcome fact sheet and LHS peer mentor/buddy program. Would also like to
develop an advisory program and to increase programming for freshmen early in the school year.
New students to the district also need additional support. Working to increase access to a social
worker on a drop-in basis.
