Present: Andrew Stephens, Suzanne Lau, Shiv Chandra, Kate Vogelzang, Leslie Zales, Ed Li, Katie Cutler, Liz Curtin, Erin Barrett, Bryce Spalding, Angela Chang, Katelyn Riley, Khoi Le and Sheera Knecht. Absent: Cathy Swan and Nancy Shepard. Guest: Grace Xu (Parent). I. Approved the October 2018 meeting minutes II. Updates • Budget o Two components to the budget—Capital and Operating budget o Capital budget requests ■ update lighting and soundboard in the auditorium ■ new public announcement (PA) system—current system dates back to 1992. Includes updating clock synchronization and scheduler for bells. Would also coordinate with the door locking automation software. o Operating budget requests ■ Additional staffing to accommodate 125 anticipated increase in student population (teaching staff and counselors). ■ Staff for college and career planning ■ Dean assistant in charge of attendance ■ Campus monitor position for campus buildings o Chromebook feedback—will implement a system for feedback towards the end of the school year to allow sufficient time for students and staff to work through initialization of one-to- one program. III. Discussion/Announcements • Schedule Update o LHS Schedule Website o LHS Block Schedule Process/Options Srideshow o Google Form for Questions and/or Comments o Three options are presented with progressively longer blocks. o Green option with longest blocks (75 - 85 minutes) also has a block with lunch interruptions. Schedule repeats every 8 days. Classes meet 4/8 days. o Blue option with medium length blocks (60— 70 minutes)has separate lunch periods. Classes meet 3/5 days; 5 day repeat schedule. o Non-academic time—free blocks and passing time (one-minute passing time per cycle is equal to approximately 5 hours of academic time). o IEP times would be specified in the schedule. o I-block at the end of the day is not desirable. o Non-uniform block times can be difficult to manage when teaching multiple sections in different blocks. o Collecting input from stakeholders—Principal Stephens will decide in mid to late January. • Late Start-- Times and impacts for LHS o Dr. Hackett letter on Later Start time o Survey on Later Start Time o Transportation Analysis & Start Time Presentation to School Committee o Later Start Time Implications - shorthand implications for Elementary, MS, HS o Concerns with after school implications ■ Staff commute ■ Childcare ■ Supervision of school clubs and activities ■ After school jobs (staff and students) ■ Later afternoon activities impact on evening activities III. Website activity(postponed to December meeting) • Survey of comparable schools' websites o Counseling o Communication o Community service o Website structure V.
