Present: Andrew Stephens, Suzanne Lau, Shiv Chandra, Kate Vogelzang,Leslie Zales, Ed Li, Katie Cutler, Liz Curtin,Erin Barrett,Bryce Spalding, Nancy Shepard, Angela Chang,Cathy Swan,Katelyn Riley, Khoi Le and Sheera Knecht. Guest: Christina Lin (Parent,PTO co-President) I. Introductions Introduced new school council members Katelyn Riley (Science building) and Khoi Le (Student, Class of 2021). II. Approved the September 2018 meeting minutes III. Discussion/Announcements • Call to Action Paper presented to School Committee in September—reactions,thoughts o Action plan is at the end of the paper—could be daunting for readers to get to the end when seeking feedback. Superintendent statement giving context is at the beginning. o All feedback is welcome. o Data is not specific to LHS. o Questions: ■ Is there consistency across schools? ■ Equity—How are students grouped?Levelled? ■ What infractions lead to in-school versus out-of-school suspensions? ■ What reparations measures are taken? o Add student perspective o Examine smaller, daily microaggressions o Professional development for intentional/unintentional bias • Open to All Campaign o Superintendent pledge to support LexPride's Open to All campaign. • Stephens updates: o 2018 NEASC Self Reflection Report -- approved by faculty 0 Accurate reflection of the current state of LHS o NEASC Collaborative Conference Schedule Oct. 30-31 ■ Parent participation in October 30 morning session—contact Christine Sullivan if interested. o Back to School Night (October 11) —Parking was worse than usual,rain may have been a factor. o MSBA toured LHS —observed shared space issues,enrollment impact, lunch blocks, temperature regulation in buildings. o Schedule update— 3 model schedules (8 block schedules) have been chosen to present to faculty in early November that represent a compromise of length and frequency of blocks. Faculty will give feedback and reach an advisory decision to recommend to Dr. Stephens. IV. LHS Website FAQ Identification Activity Divided into groups to brainstorm improvement to the LHS website. Specifically addressed the following questions: • Can we identify key questions to start FAQ for each area? • Are there other areas we are missing? o Counseling o Communication o Community service o Website • Will summarize brainstorm ideas and continue the discussion at a future meeting. • Question: Could the LHS website have a mobile friendly version or an app?
