Re: May 7 Meeting Minutes
LHS School Site Council Meeting met on May 7,2018 from 6:15-7:50 PM in the Library Media
Center.
Present: Andrew Stephens, Suzanne Lau,Elise Rowley, Shiv Chandra,Bryce Spalding,Leslie Zales,
Dave Wininger, Sharon Kendall,Ed Li, Katie Cutler,Liz Curtin,Nancy Shepard and Sheera Knecht.
Guest: Angela Chang (LHS parent).
Absent: Erin Barrett,Kate Vogelzang and Alex McLaughlin
I. Minutes for the April 9,2018 meeting were approved.
II. Discussion—
• Final version 2018-2019 School Improvement Plan (SIP)
o Reviewed draft edits of the 2018-2019 and compared to the final draft of the SIP.
o Reviewed and discussed sub-goals and goals of the final draft of the SIP including
work on DCAP,master schedule, college and career planning and homework.
o Approved final draft with changes of the LHS School Improvement Plan.
• Start-of-year Course Specific & Universal Expectations
o Discussed proposed work to create consistent language and expectations for
classes regarding policies included in the Student Parent Handbook (e.g.
attendance, academic integrity and plagiarism etc.).
o Courses would still have individually tailored course descriptions, course material
and units and goals.
o Expectations for time expectations and balance with other courses are best
included in the Course catalog available before course selection.
• Summer work to increase support for new students entering mid-year or in the upper
classes from other countries or school systems.
o Planned summer work to create a process for pairing new students with other
students at LHS —resources include peer mentors, SOS, NHS and other clubs in
school.
III. Announcements/updates from Council members 7:10
Stephens Announcements/Updates:
• Town Meeting approved 1:1 programs providing laptops for grades 9 and 10.Will also be
developing professional development for teachers and staff for how to best utilize this
technology in the classroom.Plan to request 1:1 laptops for remaining grades next year.
• Town Meeting approved security improvements for the LHS campus.
o Next steps this summer include installing new doors,badge readers for staff,new
badges for staff and reconfiguring the parking.
o Discussed the available parking at and around LHS and what is needed for staff and
visitors.
o Discussed alternatives to reducing the parking needs at LHS —MBTA passes for staff,
one-way bus passes, Lexpress, additional bike racks,parking offsite at Lincoln fields.
