placement process; & PBL Leadership Series Update
• Parent shared questions from other parents regarding improving L'Extended for
Kindergarten (in particular using only cafe as space); Lunch - healthier options
(organic?); sharing with parents information on the use of technology in the
classrooms (recommendation of hosting a tech information night for parents)
II. Strategic Planning: "Keep, Lose, Dream & Innovate" Phase - 2
As a follow up to January, 25th council meeting, Jenny recapped the process the Joint
Council Team, Bowman staff and Bowman Site Council participated in when
considering the things as a district/school we should "Keep, Lose, Dream and Innovate."
The council reviewed the document compiled by Chrissy that represented the ideas
council members generated. Discussions around the following topics (as mentioned
more than one time by council members) ensued:
"Keep Category":
• Dismantling Racism curriculum gives kids the language to talk about racism &
privilege that we adults never had
• Commitment to educator voice/professional learning
• Anything that builds community i.e. K/3rd grade buddies, all school events
"Lose Category":
• In classroom - Debt/credit reward/penalty schemes (philosophic position)
• Homework that is undifferentiated (there's less of it, but it still remains)
"Dream Category":
• More hands on cross -disciplinary learning, project -based learning
• Project based learning
• More consistency between class in allowing parents in classrooms during ?
• Creative learning opportunities (authentic)
"Innovate Category":
• Flexible learning spaces & flexible learning
• Speakers on various topics for parents/workshops for parents
• Bowman bear shout outs - not always clear that kids or parents are clear on why
they get them
• Offer opportunity for students to learn a Second language (possibly part of
specials rotation)
• Lextended could be a fuller/better organized product - i.e. could offer classes
such as robotics, sewing, foreign language from outside agencies
Discussion concluded with suggestions of how council ideas could be incorporated into
the SIP.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:55am.
