Mr . George E. Muzzey ,
Chairman Board of Selectmen,
Lexington, Mass .
Dear Sir. -
I sent Mr . Lodge my check for $50 , thinking, with you,
that we could hardly make the amount any less , as his expenses
must„ aggregate in the neighborhood of tha':, sum. He very kind-
ly returns the check to me , saying that as his expenses were
paid by the State , he will make no charge against Lexington .
I have written him a letter , expressing our appreciation of his
kindness in this matter .
In his letter to me he says , " I should be glad , if it were
possible , to have the address printed in pamphlet form, for I
have had. .a good many calls for it , and I think there are a good
many people in the State who would like to have it . " I have
said to him that you will have the proceedings printed . Pos-
sibly I have taken too much liberty in giving this- assurance ,
but I hardly think so , for it seems to .me that through Mr .
Lodge' s kindness in remitting; the check, you can hardly do lass
than comply with his request . Moreover , you previously ex.-
pressed yourself as in favor of printing.
It seems to me that the Board of Selectmen may well. assume
G.E.M.2 .
the responsibility of printing the proceedings , and paying
therefor out of the contingent grant, if there shall be nothing
left in the Nineteenth of April appropriation.
Yours truly,
