HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-03-11-FFLB-min MINUTES FUND FOR LEXINGTON BOARD March 19, 2019 4:30 p.m., Dawes Room, Town Offices Present: Doug Lucente, Chair; Suzie Barry; Norman Cohen, Ed Grant, Paul Shupe, Alan Wrigley and Melissa Interess, Director of Human Services; Tony Serio, Assistant Director of Family and Youth Services; Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation; and Kim Katzenback, Executive Clerk to the Board of Selectmen. 1. Money Available as of 022819 Income $ 20,825.76 Principal $301,050.47 2. Human Services Human Services Report: December 1, 2018 to February 28, 2019 Melissa Interess reported on the activity for the period for the funds dispersed related to the Fund for Lexington, Human Services Emergency Fund, Recreation Scholarships and the Supported Living/Credit Card/LEHAC. Discuss Funding Process and Financial Eligibility Melissa Interess said there appears to be an up-tic in Human Services needs requests. General discussion ensued noting there may be other Trustee Funds, in addition to the Fund for Lexington, which could provide assistance for Human Services requests for residents in need. Request for Fund for the Human Services Emergency Fund Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve $4,000 for the Human Services Emergency Fund Ratify Human Services Request- Relocation Funds Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to ratify the vote for $1,850 Relocation Funds. 3. Other Issues Report on Annual Request for Funds The Fund's annual letter requesting donations was sent in November 2018. As of the date of this meeting, $22,942 has been deposited into the Fund for Lexington account. Request from Trustee of Public Trusts for Funds for Center Flower Barrels Downtown Beautification Project On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve up to $7,000 for the downtown beautification project—Flower Barrels. The Board said they would like documentation submitted for all fund requests. Request from Recreation Department for Funds to be used for Recreation Scholarship. Melissa Battite stated that the scholarship fund which the Board established has been a great success allowing children from low income families to attend Town sponsored summer programs. She provided an overview how the funds were used to date. On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve $18,000 for the Recreation Scholarship program. Request from Historical Commission for funds for Corrections to Cultural Resources Survey On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve to provide $5,000 matching funds to the Historical Commission contingent on approval of their grant application to the Massachusetts Historical Commission to correct errors in the Cultural Resources Survey project. Request from Chamber of Commerce for funds for East Lexington Beautification The Board reviewed the request from the Chamber of Commerce and determined more information is necessary for consideration of this request. Request from Munroe Center for the Arts for funds for Dance Festival On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve $1,000 to the Munroe Center for the Arts April Dance Festival 4. Next Meeting The next meetings are scheduled as follows: • June 10, 2019 • September 16, 2019 • December 9, 2019 5. Approval of December 10, 2019 Meeting Minutes. On a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 6-0 to approve the December 10, 2019 meeting minutes.
