HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-03-27-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting March 27, 2019 Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Wei Ding, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Bob Tracey. Members Not Present Glen Bassett, Carol Flynn, Mary Hutton,Paul Jenkins, Gresh Lattimore, Rita Pandey, Dave Taylor, Sam Zales. Business: • The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm. • Minutes from the meeting of March 20, 2019 were approved. • Lorain announced that June Baer will start helping her with the committee chairman's responsibilities. • Linda Dixon noted that she and Lorain have been invited to speak at the meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Lexington and Concord after Patriots Day. Linda will put together a presentation for the meeting and asked committee members to contribute information for the presentation. • Lorain raised the issue of honoring Pat Flynn at the upcoming Memorial Day ceremonies or waiting until Veterans Day to do so. It was proposed that Edith Flynn be asked about her preference since she is to be the speaker about Pat's military career. • The next TCC meeting will be on April 3, 2019. Patriots' Day, April 15, 2019: • Lorain noted that Paul Jenkins has reported that he has arranged all the required cars for the Parade. • It was noted that Dave Taylor and his brother will be available to help set up the stakes with Wayne. Sondra volunteered to ask her son-in-law to help with the staking. • Suzanne volunteered to help Mary Hutton to direct people to the buses in the High School parking lot before the parade,then move to the intersection of Mass Ave and Worthen St. to help Cerise keep the parade units moving along Worthen at the end of the parade. • June Baer will help Karen Gaughan register the parade units before the parade. • Golf cart assignments were discussed. They are: o Bob Tracey and Wayne Miller o Julie Miller and Carol Flynn o Lorain Marquis and Cerise Jalelian o Linda Dixon and Sandy Podgorski o Dave Taylor and his brother o Kim Coburn and one other person TBD • Lorain discussed the possibility of the Old Guard performing at Tower Park on Saturday, 4/13, at 3 pm before the battle commences at 4 pm. The issue of where the Old Guard's vehicles would be able to park was discussed and the committee suggested that Lorain contact Seasons Four and the Masonic Museum to see if they would be willing to have those vehicles park in their lots. • Lorain noted that as a result of the cooperation with the Arlington and Concord TCCs, the Old Guard will probably also march in the Arlington and Concord parades. • Lorain announced that the DPW will have a walk-through of the set up for the reenactment next Thursday, 4/4, at 8:15 am on the Green and asked for volunteers to attend that meeting. • It was noted that the Girl Scouts asked to be located in the parade near the High School Band in the parade. Unfortunately, that will not be possible. • Kim was asked to contact the High School Music Director to ask if any High School student singer wants to perform at the morning ceremonies on the Green. • The committee reviewed the morning Youth Parade roster and the agenda for the ceremonies on the Green. • Sandy announced that she will deliver Patriots Day Weekend schedules to the local hotels. • Geetha announced that the video about the weekend activities will be finished by Lex Media tomorrow (3/28). She asked the committee members to push out the video on their social media accounts. • Linda informed the committee that she will submit an article within the next day or two to the Lexington Minuteman paper about the Old Guard performance at Tower Park on Saturday, 4/13. • Suzanne presented the sponsorship results. Approval of Parade Applications The Committee approved the applications of the following units involving fees: • Norwich University • U.S. Navy Sea Cadets The Committee authorized the following applications that do not involve a fee: • Minuteman Cane Award • Patriots Honor Guard from Hanscom Air Force Base • Turkish American Library Group The meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.
