HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-05-15-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting May 15, 2019 Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Karen Gaughan, Cerise Jalelian, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Bob Tracey, Wayne Miller, Rita Pandey Members Not Present Wei Ding, Linda Dixon, Carol Flynn, Mary Hutton, Paul Jenkins, Gresh Lattimore, Sondra Lucente, Dave Taylor, Sam Zales Guest Gina Rada Business: • The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm. • Minutes from the meeting of April 24, 2019 were approved. • Lorain announced that Carol Flynn has retired from the committee. • Karen Gaughan noted that the Committee has made a contribution to a charity selected on behalf of Kim Coburn's mother. • Lorain announced that Doug Lucente has been appointed as the new chair of the Lexington Select Board and Jill Hai will now be the Select Board's liaison to this committee. • During a discussion about committee positions, Lorain asked committee members to write up descriptions of their duties for future committee members. Lorain also asked committee members to think about joining some of the sub-committees. • Geetha confirmed that she will take over the sub-committee responsible for recruiting Patriots Day Parade ambassadors who carry the sponsor banners in the parade. • Bob Tracey announced to the committee that they are invited to attend a function at the VFW post on May 29 at 11 am when the post will be renamed for Lt. Glen Allen, a pilot who died in World War II. • Future meetings will be: 5/22/19, 6/5/19. These dates are subject to change. Memorial Day, May 27: • Lorain noted that more information about Memorial Day ceremonies and parade will be added to the TCC Facebook page. Lorain told the committee that Paul Doherty is taking pictures of the Town memorials visited during the parade for the Facebook page and asked the committee for information requested by Paul about several of the memorials. As part of the discussion, it was noted that Linda Dixon and Gina Rada are members of the Monuments and Memorials Town Committee. • Linda Dixon is working on a script for the Memorial Day ceremonies to be used if rain causes the parade to be canceled and the ceremonies moved indoors. • Committee reviewed the parade roster. • Lorain noted that Jim Ramsay will be the parade Grand Marshal and also the keynote speaker. • Cerise agreed to contact the Boy and Girl Scout troops about participation in the parade. It was noted that the Girl Scouts will provide the carnations used in the ceremony at Munroe Cemetery. • Wayne Miller announced that he would put out the tripods for the wreaths before the parade since the tripods are too heavy to be carried during the parade. • The committee suggested that Lorain contact the Lexington Police to ensure that no parking signs will be posted on Bedford St. by Buckman Tavern on the day of the parade. • Gina announced that she will be putting out flags on veterans' graves at Westview Cemetery next week. If any committee members want to assist her, they should contact her. • Gina will read a proclamation from the Massachusetts Commonwealth at the ceremony on the Green. She also agreed to read the poem "In Flanders Fields" at the Westview Cemetery. • June Baer will arrange for the loudspeaker system for use during the parade. • Lorain asked Bob Tracey and Wayne Miller to order one more wreath for the parade since the Firefighters memorial will be re-located to the temporary Fire House on Bedford St. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
