HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04-24-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting April 24, 2019 Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Wei Ding, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Sandy Podgorski, Bob Tracey, Mary Hutton, Paul Jenkins, Wayne Miller, Rita Pandey Members Not Present Glen Bassett, Carol Flynn, Gresh Lattimore, Geetha Padaki, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales, Suzanne Caton, Sue Stering, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Kim Coburn Business: • The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm. • Minutes from the meeting of April 10, 2019 were approved. • The following full Committee members, Linda and Bill, opted to renew membership for another term. All nonvoting members renewed membership for a year. Mary Hutton said she did not want to be secretary for the committee next year. • The Committee will make a contribution to a charity selected on behalf of Kim's mother, who died the day after the parade. • There was discussion of the Committee's having a table at Discovery Day. Lorain asked for volunteers. No one stepped forward. • Lorain will contact the Town Manager about procuring a place to store the things that she and Paul and Wayne currently store for the Committee. • The Marriott Burlington has offered to dedicate one of its ballrooms to showing Gina Johnson's pictures.] • Future Meetings will be: 5/08/19, 5/15/19, 5/22/19, 6/5/19. These dates are subject to change. Patriots' Day, April 15, 2019 Revisited: • There was discussion of the decision to move the step-off time for the parade from 2 pm to 1:15 pm due to weather considerations. Almost all groups were able to adjust to the change. However, it was noted that should there be a need to do this in the future, it would be important to have people at the beginning of the parade to check in participants and help direct them to their designated area. • Gresh had sent comments about potential changes for the day's activities in the future. Lorain suggested that the subcommittee formed to consider shortening the parade also consider other possible changes. Changing the starting time of the parade could be considered. Memorial Day: • Gina Rada has a proclamation from the Commonwealth from last year that she suggests be read at this year's ceremony. • Lorain read through the order of the parade • Still needed are: o Need Grand Marshall o Need to invite honored guests o Need to contact the Speaker Bureau at the base for suggestions for a speaker. o Arrange for no parking in front of Buckman Tavern for the High School Band. o Need to pick wreath bearers from Boy/Girl Scouts. • Glen and Gresh will be co MC's.
