Call to Order, Welcome, Council Business & Public Comment ● December 3 Meeting Notes Approval ● January 7 Meeting Notes Approval ● Public Comment II. Parent/Caregiver, Staff, and Admin Check-Ins: January in Review: ● Parents/Caregivers: i. JZ: Report a concern to school; nice to see there’s a protocol in place; nice to see that it was addressed ii. E: Question about about the Star screeners, and how to get more information about student scores. ● Staff: i. NP: Student who is learning Russian, started writing “I like math in Russian.” ii. SF: Shoutout to math for having strategies for self-affirmation. Having research behind the impact of self-affirmation for others. Department time has been given, based on research. A “true pause” in classrooms based on identity and strength-based reflection. 1. JW was hoping to do this. 2. Choosing to See: NP – doing a lot of team activities, based on highlighting needs. ● Admin: III. School Innovation Plan Updates for January ‘26: Tabled IV. School Innovation Plan ‘26-’28 Work: ● Review KLDI Protocol Notes from our previous meetings ● Problem-Based Prioritization Activity i. Kids and Smartphones: It’s a problem – 1. academic distraction (in pockets) 2. affecting mental health (social media – 2/9 hours a day on social media) 3. Not as many 6th grade students have a cell phone a. classroom pockets b. confiscation of cell phones, even in pockets 4. Education about alternatives a. watches can be more difficult 5. Health education curriculum additions? 6. Have high schoolers come talk with students about the harms of cell phone/social media ii. Chromebook and Technology usage: 1. Health vs. preparation for future; better balance 2. What is the curriculum? 3. Stewardship/responsibility 4. Distractability 5. What does the data say? V. Adjournment
