Lexington Tree Committee
2.5.26
1. The committee met in person to discuss 2026 goals. We began at 6:35 pm.Present
were: Ben Fein-Cole, associate member, members Pat Moyer (chair and minutes),
Gavin Grant, Alicia Morris, Nancy Sofen, Barbara Tarrh, Rachel Noack Summers,
and guest Gerry Paul.
2. Goals set out were:
a. Exploring all avenues to increase street tree planting.
b. Continuing and extending (to all elementary schools) the fifth grade tree
giveaway
c. Sponsoring a “Tree Summit”, possibly as part of the early work of the UFMP,
including various departments--DPW, Engineering, Planning, Sustainability,
Zoning, Parks and Recreation, Conservation, the Town Manager, and the Tree
Comm.
d. Further shepherding the use of jotform to aid the Forestry Division in planning for
spring/fall planting
e. Updating our current list of trees we want to see planted (resident, town, and
builder use).
f. Educating residents about the need for and value of townwide tree planting;
increased use of social media; getting a flier in the water or tax bill.
g. Positive reinforcement of planters/neighborhoods when street trees ARE
planted.
h. Familiarizing ourselves with the 2011 goals for the battlegreen, and encouraging
planting of the trees already planned.
