Lexington Tree Committee Minutes
1.8.26
1. Meeting was called to order at 7:33 AM. It was held by zoom. In attendance were
members Nancy Sofen, Alicia Morris, Barbara Tarrh, Rachel Summers, Pat Moyer
(chair and minutes), Gavin Grant, and associate member Ben Fein-Cole. Other
attenders were Charlie Wyman, Gerry Paul, and Fran F.
2. Minutes of December meeting were approved unanimously
3. Pat reported that Dave Pinsonneault is still waiting for recommendations before
choosing a consultant for the Urban Forest Master Plan
4. Carrying out the door-hanger project awaits the Town’s publicity of the spring-
planting. Barbara has had 150 tags printed and will distribute to us at the
appropriate time.
5. Nancy has set up a spreadsheet of the 2025 construction sites, including those
most recently opened, to enable us to assess their compliance with the bylaw. Not
everyone has completed their initial survey of the newest sites. When done, Nancy
will forward to Chris for review and action as needed.
6. Public review of the A?ordable Housing Trust site landscape plans, and those of 2
MBTA Community sites (475 Bedford and Wood St) is open. The landscape plans for
the AHT Lowell site remain robust. 475 Bedford plans call for multiple trees under
wires to go. Wood St. initial plans specify ash, which are susceptible to EAB, and
also need soil remediation. Barbara T. will go to the 1/21/26 Planning Board hearing.
7. Barbara proposes and we agreed to an in person meeting to discuss goals for the
year, which should include a look at intended and unintended consequences of the
positions we support. Suggested items to discuss include: the loss of big trees in
town, whether or not to visit tree wardens from other municipalities, our best
practices policy, linking up with the regional tree consortium (composed of tree
advocates of other towns), with Trees as a Public Good, and/or with the google
group Mass Tree Orgs, of which Charlie Wyman is an attender or member.
8. Possible dates for such a meeting agreeable to most were Thursday 1/22, or
Thursday 2/5, 6:30-8:00 pm. Pat will find a time and date at the Community Center
or the Police community room, and notify all.
9. We adjourned at 8:42 AM, next meeting is Thursday Feb. 12, 7:30-9:30 AM on zoom.
