HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-12-03-COA-minTown of Lexington Council on Aging Board Meeting December 3, 2025 Time: 2:32 PM COA-Sudhir Jain, John Zhao, Julie -Ann Shapiro, Sue Rockwell, Bonnie Teitleman-Levin, Janet Perry, Sandra Hackman, Virtual -Julie Barker, Ellen Cameron, Jyotsna Kakullavarapu Staff -Michelle Kelleher, Kelsey Rollins, Fran Servello, Christine Dean Julie -Ann called hybrid meeting to order at 2:32 PM and took attendance No public comments November Meeting Minutes approved New Business John Zhao will be COA liason to Vision for Lexington Sandra Hackman asked if the Vine Street buiding site might be designated as 55+ housing. COA will write a letter to put on agenda for Town Meeting, send it out and Board will vote on it. John, who has visited the site, will inform Vineeta Kumar, Selectboard liason and get feedback, COA will then vote on initiative. Ellen met with town engineer Ross Morrow, who explained design of roundabouts. He will oversee visual alterations to make them more visible and add signage. Staff Reports Christine Dean • Budget meeting; vote on new high school 12/8 • Fitness stations to be redesigned and replaced to be more durable • Winter program thru March in progress Michelle Kelleher, Senior Services Director • Budget meeting • Giving Tree • Alzheimer's Support Groups in demand, will do more • Bingo popular with senior managers alternating w/staff each month • Parking pass had 2200 renewals, 220 new apps o Ellen suggested card of appreciation to staff • May look at age people are eligible for senior services, now 60+ Fran Servello social work intern New programs Kelsey Rollins, Senior Services Coordinator 0 SHINE successful with 70 appointments Programs: o Tax support volunteer program 40 attended o Cybersecurity 40 people o Symphony trip 36 attended o Barbershop program •Registration for Jan/Feb programs Age Friendly Subcommittee Update • New initiatives aligned with age -friendly domains considered; what does subcommittee want to do ? o Intergenerational program possibility Home Care program idea needs more discussion, Sandra has contacted Minuteman to see what they do Uber/Lyft and other transportation programs in other towns explored by Sudhir and listed in table/chart compiled by John Zhao which he will share with Board Liaison Reports Minuteman Senior Services, Sudhir Jain • High call volume from Lexington, wait list for services o Michelle available for interim • Increased food referrals; meal cost increase from $2 to #$ • Crafty Yankee has giving tree open til 12/22 • Open enrollment, including Advantage plans, money management prograns • Senior food drive 11/14-12/12 • Retailers donated $300 FCOA Sudhir • 5,000 fund raising letters sent, $5122 cost; • Looking for new members Transportation Sudhir Jain • Zoning for new construction of 591 Lowell Street will have limited parking space Lexington Housing Authority- Sue Rockwell no update Disability Commission (DC) -Janet Perry -supports roundabout and playground improvements Housing Partnership (HP) — Sandra Hackman as member will be voted by Selectboard Mental Health & Wellness Task Force — Ellen Cameron no updates Vision for Lexington John Zhao now COA liason Lexington Center Committee -open position Strategic Equity Advisory Team (SEAT) - Ellen Cameron on hold Julie-ann adjourned COA meeting at 3:52 PM.
