Topic: KLW Based on Innovation Plan 2024-2025
Goal: Address and narrow equity gaps, especially through a special education lens:
• Students with disabilities often face higher suspension rates and achievement gaps.
• Equity means supporting students at different levels.
Focus Areas
• TeacherEase: Ongoing work to improve communication and grading clarity.
• Learning Process Standards: Continue alignment.
• SEL Programs: Need reassessment; work has slowed due to competing priorities.
• Restorative Practices: Aim for stronger implementation this year; first school -wide circle
planned.
• Equity Team: Supporting restorative work and broader equity initiatives.
• MTSS: Address disproportionality in reading/math interventions; STAR screener used
3x/year, reports to families still in progress.
Staff Feedback:The last bullet point on the goals feel complex ("alphabet soup").
Community Feedback: Need better communication of goals to parents and broader community.
Activity: Anchor Chart Rotation
• Keep: What works well at Diamond.
• Lose: Systems to remove.
• Dream: Improvements to current practices.
• Innovate: New ideas for Diamond.
Debrief Highlights:
• TeacherEase is critical for communication and grading transparency.
• Consider parent training and summer prep for TeacherEase. Especially incoming and new
families ( possibly led by parents)
• Explore automated notifications for parents who haven't engaged.
• TeacherEase is preferred over Google Classroom for clarity.
Updates
• Graffiti Incident: Restorative approach used; involved teachers, parents, and LPD. Focused
on harm and impact rather than punitive measures.
• Political Climate: Supporting students in understanding language choices of public figures.
• Ski Trip: Will move to a raffle system next year for equity. Mimic the same process from
Clarke. Many students did not make it in time to give checks.
• Health Screener: Some students felt unsettled; need teacher debrief before/after surveys.
• Mascots: Two DRUM mascots coming next month.
• High School Transition: Visit day in June; suggested that step-up day before Minuteman
deadline.
• Cafeteria: Ensure knives available for all students.
