2. Minutes of 12-16-24 approved
3. Buildin Pro ect U dates
a. We're currently in the schematic design phase, with a preliminary design expected in
late June. The team is starting to talk about FFE, departmental needs after meeting
with each department, etc. This phase has to take into account that every square foot
costs more money, so decisions are being made about what's truly necessary.
i. The biggest sq ft addition is in lab spaces that are either shared across the
school or dedicated for specific purposes (maker labs, stem labs, theater
production lab, etc). The number of classrooms is about the same, but there
will be 13 dedicated lab spaces, which will make a big difference. There will
also be dedicated teacher work spaces.
b. Andrew shared some pictures of planned outdoor spaces/programming. There will be
outdoor learning environments, sensory gardens, outdoor dining
c. The fields touched during construction will be the football field and the baseball
diamond.
d. There will be 3 main entrances: a loop off of Worthen Rd. for parents and students, a
loop off of Worthen for buses and drop off, and a smaller loop off of Park Drive
which will be more for LABBB. We had further discussion about parking, lanes for
pedestrians, bikes. The LHS staff has grown in the past two years; the new school
will only have parking spaces for teachers (which still won't be enough).
e. The Central Office will be on the 4th floor, on the end of the building close to Park
Lane.
4.On >oina Data Collection (Draft Survey- working with Middle Schools Principals)
Lexington High School 1 251 Waltham Street I Lexington, MA 102421
a. Alison's draft survey of 9th graders about the transition to LHS was shared with MS
principals, who gave some feedback. There's a meeting Feb 5 with Maureen
Kavanaugh to look at wording, etc. Hope to take this time to bookend the survey by
asking both 8th and 9th graders, parents and caregivers, teachers, etc.
b. One point MS principals made is that there has been a lot of data collection on
standards-based grades and outcomes, and they feel there are some key indicators of
students who will receive C -Fs at LHS. If communicated well, this can be known and
dealt with.
c. Still working on adding more questions about ECs, social issues, etc.
d. Importance of partnership with MS principals in designing/administering this survey;
Andrew will keep discussing it with them.
Lexington Learns Together for Students on 2-14-25
a. This will be the first attempt at having a Day 0, where the school stops all of the
"normal stuff' in order to build community, let students follow their passions, etc.
b. Currently there's a huge list of options. Most sessions were accepted (they were only
declined if there were safety or logistical considerations that couldn't be addressed).
Students now have to find an adult to be with them; some teachers have reached out
to Andrew saying they might not know the student, but they know the subject so
would like to be the supervising adult.
6. ion of the Graduate
a. Andrew has to write a 3, 5, and 7 year update to the decennial report for LHS, and
one of the owed items is the vision of the graduate for LPS. This cannot be developed
just by the HS; it's a vision for the district, so includes stakeholders from outside the
HS such as the superintendent and the School Committee.
b. NEASC requires that you have to have a definition of what you're looking for beyond
academic success. They allow you to define it in one of 3 ways:
i. collective vision for student success
iivision of graduate
iii. portrait of the learner.
c. We do have a collective vision already, so shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel. The
information is often visualized in a list or infographic (such as we already have for
our core values). Andrew and Julie like the way that Farmington, CT articulates their
vision of their graduate, so have provided an example. .
d. There are 5 tenets to our LPS vision; at our next Site Council meeting, we will break
up into small groups and do more thinking to try to move those tenets into something
more articulated as "I can" or "I am learning to" statements.
We will need to think about what the import would be for graduation
requirements, transcript ideas, and core values.
7. Meeting adjourned 6:30pm
