Approved minutes of 1-27-25 3. on of the Graduate a. A "vision of the graduate" is part of the NEASC accreditation process; LHS has had the same set of graduation requirements for 30 years. b. Discussion of modifications to science curriculum for next year, as part of ongoing work to bring about parity for teachers at LHS in terms of what constitutes a teaching load; science is currently the outlier. i. In the upcoming school year, CP courses will meet 4 times in a 6 day cycle next year iiteachers have looked at curricula, seen units not needed, whether because they're covered elsewhere in other courses, or now available as electives. iii. AP courses are remaining 6/6. iv. LHS will be adding a second pass AP Bio class for students who didn't want to take it in 10th. They theoretically could take two sciences senior year if they also wanted to take physics. V. the grand vision for down the road is for students to have more choice in what they take and when, but we're only just building that out now. It's a process. vi. comment that this restructure is very helpful from a sped viewpoint; science is where a lot of kids have trouble making up the credits. c. Part of the reaccreditation process is looking at the vision of the graduate. It's not separate from district strategic plan, mission, etc; they're the jumping off point for this work. Nice to have something to focus on that's separate from grades, etc. Every school in the district has done this. d. 5 tenets to the strategic plan that we want to integrate into the vision of the graduate. This evening we'll break out by interest into one of the 5 tenets, fill out those components on the worksheet here. Lexington High School 1 251 Waltham Street I Lexington, MA 102421 e. breakout rooms for the first 3 items; group members took notes on their individual worksheets and shared them with Andrew. Some thoughts afterwards: i. lots of the change has to be systemic in order to allow for students to fulfill many of these criteria ii. the learning that counts might be more than just what happens between 8:30 and 3:15. For lots of students that already exists, for others they will need some help and scaffolding to set that up. iii. Andrew says to let him know if we want to be on the synthesis team to look at responses. 4. Meeting adjourned 7:30
