HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-01-19-SC-min Lexington School Committee Minutes - January 19, 1988 Page 1 A meeting of the Lexington School Committee was held on Tuesday, January 19, 1988 at 8:00 p.m. at the Clarke Middle School. Present were Koplow, Leader, Newman, Wik and Student Representative Christa Johanson. Also present were Zimmerman, Bent, DiGiammarino, Maclnnes and Barnes. Mrs. Wik, Chairman pro tem, said that the focus of the evening's HEARING/88-89 meeting would be an informational session regarding potential reduc- BUDGET ITEMS tions and/or eliminations in the 1988-89 school budget. Rudi Grobewski read a letter from ACT (Arts Created Together) pro- PUBLIC testing the possible elimination of funding for the program in the schools. She said members of ACT were requesting only a small amount of money for 88-89 due to financial constraints. She added that $800 was requested in the 88/89 school budget and it would send a message that there was still some commitment on the part of the School Commit- tee for the ACT program. Dr. Zimmerman reviewed a variety of items which focused on those programs mandated by law, contract obligations and assorted items that could be reduced without infringing upon increasing individual class sizes. She explained in detail the implications of each item consid- ered a potential reduction. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, it was VOTED: to accept the Schedule of Payments as listed on Pace 89, 69-A SCHEDULE OF 69-B. (Koplow, Leader, Unanimous) (To be embodied in the PAYMENTS Official Minutes. ) VOTED: to accept the Personnel Changes - Classified as listed on PERSONNEL CHANGES- Page 70. (Koplow, Newman, Unanimous) (To be embodied in the CLASSIFIED Official Minutes. ) It was VOTED: to convene in Executive Session at 9:13 p.m. to discuss mat- ters pertaining to litigation.
