A meeting of the Lexington School Committee was held on Wednesday,
June 3, 1987 at 7:00 p.m. in the School Administration Building.
Present were: Koplow, Leader, Newman, Wik and Clough. Also present:
Barnes.
The School Committee interviewed Barbara Gilvar from the firm of CONSULTANT-BARBARA
Isaacson Miller, Oliver and Bowlware. She outlined the services and GILVAR
skills that she could provide as a consultant in the superintendent
search process. Among the topics she reviewed were: networking abil-
ities, needs assessment skills, interviewing skills, the development
of a qualified pool of candidates, After Mrs. Gilvar's precentation,
the „School Committee discussed some of the topics with her.
The School Committee thanked Mrs. Gilvar for her presentation and
her written proposal. The Chairman stated he would be in contact with
her as soon as all of the potential consultants for the process had
been interviewed.
Dr. Karl Plath presented key features of the superintendent search DR. KARL ?LATH,
process that P. N. R. Associates could provide the Lexington School F.N.R. ASSOCIATES
Committee. Dr. Plath noted his ability to provide networking in a
variety of arenas. He also reviewed the many superintendent searches
completed by his firm. Additional terms reviewed were the development
of a brochure, the role of the School Committee, development of
criteria and qualifications for the position, fees, etc. The School
Committee thanked Dr. Plath for his presentation The Chairman in-
formed Dr. Plath that he would be in contact with him after all
potential candidates were interviewed.
The School Committee discussed including an evaluation clause in EVALUATION CLAUSE
the new superintendent's contract. It was also agreed to provide a INTERNAL CANDI-
copy of a proposed contract to the three or four finalists. The DATES
final agreement was that internal candidates would be treated the same
in the process as outside candidates.
