A meeting of the Lexington School Committee was held on Tuesday,
May 26, 1987 at 8:00 p.m. in the Bridge School cafeteria. Present
were Koplow, Leader, Wik and Clough. Also present were Pierson,
DiGiammarino and Barnes.
Dr. Pierson began the presentation by review the capacity of the BRIDGE SCHOOL
elementary schools where no redistricting would take place. He also REDISTRICTING
reviewed the School Committee vote on redistricting of early May.
The hearing at this point highlighted the alternative=_ regarding
redistricting within the Bridge School district. Dr. Pierson noted
that it was important to say which plan seemed to have the most merit
and support for the long term picture for the system. After the pre-
sentation, the Superintendent and several parents made presentations
regarding possible redistricting options, enrollment patterns and
issues such as the "grandfathering students," etc.
Following the remarks of parents and citizens, the School Commit-
tee discussed the redistricting issues. (Examples: geococes, "grand-
fathering" , fifth grade assignments, projections, redistricting effect
on other districts and goals of the system. )
Dr. Pierson noted that he was recommending LM, LR, LG be redis-
tricted. He said there was a need to maintain Bridge's enrollment at
a relatively low level in order to absorb future students from new
housing in the western part of the Town and/or students from Estabrook.
He said this plan was the only one which achieved those goals.
