Approval of January COA minutes, one addition.
New Business
Windowpane Shop Report
• Ellie Noz and Christina Mackay have managed shop for 11 years with support of 8 other
volunteers.
• They accept, price and sell pocketbooks, scarves, clothing, houseware,jewelry(clip-on earrings
in demand)
• Donations accepted on Mondays and Fridays during shop hours, donations not accepted go to
Goodwill
• Hours: Monday 9:30AM -2PM ,Tuesday- Friday 10AM-2PM
• Great place to socialize, obtain recommendations, a "coffeeless cafe"
• Shop has earned $68,000 since 2008, $1500 in December 2018 with holiday sale
• Income supports subsidies made by Friends of COA for coffee, supplies,trips, lunches
• Location not ideal for patron access and visibility
• Suggestions:

o Sandwich board -Christine
Fix-it Shop Report
Jay Sharrock and 12 volunteers fix home electric appliances, lamps,vacuums, toaster ovens, coffee
makers, radios, wood furniture, caning. No microwaves, large appliances,technology, computers,
printers, A/C.
Donations suggested
Hours:Tues, Wed,Thursday 9AM-12PM
$1400 annually used to purchase equipment and supplies for shop
Staff Reports
Hemali Shah Senior Services Coordinator
• Age Friendly Stakeholders Meeting on February 5th went well. Next step: hearing back from
UMass re: survey draft.
• Two upcoming Age Friendly Forums: March 12th 12:30-2PM , March 25th 6PM. Pizza provided.
Encouraged attendance.
• Upcoming Program Highlights
o Q+A Town Manager,Jim Malloy April 10 10AM-12PM
o St Patrick's Day lunch March 14 12-2PM. Volunteer servers requested, contact Melissa
I nteress.
o Housing Options and Trusts April 11 1:30-3:OOPM. Attorney Dale Tamburro will discuss
financial, legal ways to manage home protection, care needs. He will provide 3
individual 45 minute meetings beginning at 2:4513M. Registration required.
• New position posted for Human Service Outreach Coordinator to serve families and seniors.
Christine Dean Community Center Director
• New position posted for a Saturday Building Superintendent 9AM-5PM.
• Website has capital project updates.
• Summer guide will go out electronically. Registration begins February 11.
• Spring Guide available April 1.
• Building is getting more requests for space.
• Recreation Dept has a grant to hire 3 instructors for 6 wk. Walk with Ease Programs through
Arthritis Foundation.
• Bright Ideas Grant- Field and Garden Club will be installing 4 raised garden beds in back of
building. Met with DPW to start to plan the garden.
Liaison Reports
Minuteman Senior Services-Gary Fallick-Executive office of Elder Affairs Secretary has resigned.The
Chief of Staff Robin Lipson is now the acting Secretary.There is a legislative initiative to broaden
eligibility for State homecare services regardless of income level.
• Lexington@Home offering Uber/Lyft training 3/26 1:30-3PM
• The Social Determents of Community health -focus on outcomes are part of the Healthy Living
Programs: 2 courses
• Matter of Balance Class (March 4-April 22)
• Powerful tools for caregivers
• Minutemen by your side is a geriatric care manager for folks at home
Community Center Program Advisory Committee-Sandra Shaw-An Eagle scout made a presentation
and 3 picnic tables will be placed in front of the Community Center for all to use.
Transportation Committee-Sudhir Jain-Tri Town survey report 200 pages. Highlights three services.
• Fixed routes
• Microtransit
• Door to door services
Flex pass for students is under review for usage.
FCOA- Ellen Cameron-2 new members to join the FCOA. No quorum this meeting. Wrote thank you
notes to those who donated to FCOA via mailing requests campaign.
Commission on Disability-Bonnie Teitleman -Commission increasing outreach;will visit COA on 3/6/19
meeting.
Human Services Committee- Betty Borghesani—
• Mental Health &Wellness Task Force with grant through CHNA grant. 4 different branches:
Prevention, intervention, research and identification and postvention
• William James interface- referral service to find therapists now on the Human Services town
website page
Recreation Committee-Julie Ann Shapiro, Ellen Cameron, didn't attend
Lexington Housing Authority-Camille Goodwin meeting next week
Vision 20/20 Committee-Jyotsna Kakullavarapu - Public Information Officer hired; working on common
platform for communication.
Housing Partnership- Rich McDonough-
• 186 Bedford Street looking to rezone and build 13 units -3 will be affordable and retail space on
lower level. Abutters oppose.
• Zero Grove Street. 29 Units-only 3 affordable. Single family units and duplexes. Single family
1.7 million, and affordable 1/4 of the price.There will be three phases.
Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee-Camille Goodwin- no new information
Age Friendly_- Betty Borghesani,John Zhao-Town focus groups planned. (see above)
Mental Health and Wellness Task Force - Ellen Cameron, Sudhir Jain,Jyotsna Kakullavarapu
• Ellen - Intervention group meeting next week
• Sudhir Jain - Identification group-Comparing with other towns regarding Mental health,Alcohol,
Mental disorders etc.
• Jyotsna—Prevention group met and discussed ongoing funding, and education; reduce stigma
and give resources.
