HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-06-19-BOS-min 567 I SRT,FC TMEN'S MEETING June 19, 1961 A meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building, on Monday, June 19, 1961, at 7:15 P.M. Chairman Morey, Messrs. Ferguson, Cole , and Richards were present . The Executive Clerk was also present . Maribeth Leonardo, 27 Cottage Street, met with the Board to receive her Guide ' s License and badge . License Following a few appropriate remarks by the Chairman, Miss Leonardo retired. Notice was received from the Massachusetts High- way Association relative to a Highway Officials' Work- shop to be held at the University of Massachusetts on Highway July 19 and 20. School The Board approved attendance by Mr. Carroll, Superintendent of Public Works, or a representative from his department . It was agreed to hold a Special Meeting of the Board on Wednesday, June 28, if the agenda for Monday, Meeting June 26, is not completed. The Chairman read a letter, signed by David F. Packard, Co-Chairman of the concert scheduled for June 21 and sponsored by the Elks and Marine Corps League , requesting permission to set up four 6-foot tables to be used to dispense refreshments during the program. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted Permit to grant the request and to ask the group to submit any future requests upon which the Board must act, more in advance of the proposed activity. Mr. Richards reported that Mrs. Mary L. Pahigian, 29 Sherburne Road, had sent him a written request for permission to conduct a block dance on July 3, 1961, Permit from 5:00 P.M. until midnight, on Dane and Foster Roads. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to grant the request . The Chairman read a letter from George W. Porten, Dog Officer, relative to the Brucchi ve Adams case . He reported a witness having seen the Adams' dog in 568 ~' the enclosure where Mr. Brucchi keeps his horses, and in view of that, felt a hearing would be warranted. Dog Hearing It was agreed to hold a hearing on July 10, 1961 at 8:30 P.M. in the Selectmen' s Room, to determine whether or not an Order should be issued concerning the restraint or disposal of the dog as may be deemed necessary. Petition was received, signed by 97 people living on Fern Street , Moreland Avenue, Rockville Avenue, Bird Hill Road, Swan Lane, King Street, Davis Road and Buckman Drive Moon Hill Road, requesting the Board to make approxi- mately 250 feet of Buckman Drive a temporary exit until such time as the Pest permanent solution can be determined by the. Town. Petition was received, signed by 132 people , of which 120 were correct signatures of registered voters, request- ing the Board to insert articles in the warrant for the Articles next Town Meeting to establish as a town way, and accept . the layout of as a town way, Buckman Drive from existing Buckman Drive southerly to Moreland Avenue and to es- tablish as a town way, and accept the layout of as a town way, Summit Road from near Pinewood Street southerly to Fern Street. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted License to certify Thomas J. Phelan' s application for renewal of his Peddler ' s license . - Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to sign an Order for the construction of a sewer in Sewer Order Lincoln Street from Middleby Road to Marrett Road and from Middleby Road 717 feet, more or less, northeasterly. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve the minutes of the Selectmen' s Meeting held inutes on June 15, 1961, subject to corrections as suggested _ by the Chairman. Due to the limited time, because of the Speeial Town Meeting, the following items were held over: Sergeant Russell's retirement Executive Assistant Leave Regulations Whitman & Howard The meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
