HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-02-01-BOS-min 0.0 SELEC TMEN'S MEETING February 1, 1961 A special meeting of the Board cf Selectmen was held in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building, on Wednesday, February 1, 1961, at 8:00 P.M. Chairman Morey, Messrs . Adams , Ferguson, Richards, and Cole were present . Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to appoint Mr . Cole Secretary pro tem. The Planning Board met with the Selectmen and it was agreed by both Boards to have a committee of two from each Board to review, accept, and consider all Land Use propositions for land use other than residential. The following subjects were agreed upon by both Boards: No partial rezoning be considered on Waltham Street. Desirable to restore certain C 1 area to R 1. Insert an article in the warrant re M1 Proposed steps toimprove so-called Savings Bank Parking Lot . The Planning Board retired. Further discussion was held relative to agents Insurance participating in the commission on the Town' s insurance and it was voted three to one to defer action for four weeks. Report was received from the committee appointed to study and review the precinct boundaries . There being very little difference in the number of voters in each precinct, the committee recommended no change Precincts at the present time . It did, however, recommend that a committee be appointed in 1963 to re-study the sub- ject and make definite recommendations so that any change could be voted on at the Annual Town Meeting in 1964. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to appoint Mr. Cole to represent the Board on Monday evening, February 20, at the annual inter-faith meeting commemorating the occasion of Brotherhood Month. 333 Mr. Cole reported that the Civil Defense alarm system will cost about $30,000. An item should be prepared for warrant for the next Town Meeting inas- Alarm System much as estimates are not adequate not. The Federal Government shares 5o% of the cost and payment can be apportioned over a two-year period. The subject of an Executive Secretary was . dis- cussed and it was voted four to one to include an Executive item in the Selectmen' s Personal Services budget . Secretary Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unani- mously voted to grant a blanket increase of 5% on all salaries and wages under the jurisdiction... of the Salaries Selectmen; step-rate increases if due to be added before the 5% is figured. It was agreed to include two articles in the warrant on Worthen Road; one for construction and one for the Articles acquisition of the Hagerty property, 6 Lincoln Street . Consideration of the purchase of business machines was held over. The subject of Gas Inspector was discussed and the Gas Inspector Chairman reported that Mr. Abbott is securing information for the Board. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to insert an article in the warrant to prevent indi#iduals Article from depositing snow on a street or sidewalk that has been cleared by the Town. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to insert an article in the warrant for the acquisition Article of a parcel of land situated at the corner of Washington and Warren Streets as an historic site . Mr. Olson from the Department of Public Works pre- sented a plan of the proposed relocation of the Massa- chusetts Avenue bridge and Massachusetts Avenue to con- nect with Route 2A.
