Present were: Gaudet, Swanson, Beck, Shaw, Michelman, and Student Representative Splaine. Also present was: Barnes. Mr. Michelman announced that of the possible consultants that he had CONSULTANTS contacted for the Superintendent Search, Dr. Richard Goodman from the Uni- versity of New Hampshire would be available to meet with the School Com- mittee at its meeting of November 24. The School Committee agreed to in- vite Dr. Goodman to the session. Mr. Michelman reported to the School Committee that he had asked Mr. SUPERINLENDENT Barnes to prepare a list of agencies where the brochure for the search SEARCH for Superintendent would be sent as well as a listing of the channels of advertisement. In addition, he requested that Mr. Barnes check with the State regarding compliance factors for the equal opportunity statement. The brochure draft was presented by Dr. Beck. The School Committee reviewed and made several contextual changes. After a review of each sec- tion, it was agreed to compose the final brochure at the meeting of the 24th. Mr. Barnes was asked to comment on the time frame for publication of the brochure. He responded that it would take approximately one week, if all the information was received by Wednesday, November 25. He also said the advertisement for the new Superintendent would appear in the New York Times, Boston Globe, and Bay State Banner newspapers on Sunday, De- cember 6, and other national magazines, etc. , thereafter. Dr. Beck said he had several comments that he would present at the SCREENING next School Committee meeting for its discussion of the Screening Com- COMMITTEE mittee. He said he felt strongly that it was very important to renew Town leadership and that the committee for the search for Superintendent offered a unique opportunity to provide such an experience for some citi- zens. He felt that there should be people on the committee with a range of interests, not only in education. Professionals with personnel back- ground were important, but it should not be the only criterion for appoint- ment. At this point, Mrs. Swanson responded that she felt that personnel experience was a critical factor and that some of the people who were ap- pointed in 1975 would be an asset.. Mr. Michelman said that these two points should be explored by the School Committee when the discussion occurred. He suggested that an eight- member committee could accommodate both types of individuals. It was agreed to discuss this item at the next School Committee meeting. It was VOTED: to adjourn at 8:55 p.m. (Swanson, Beck, Unanimous) -7 Respectfully submitted( l .t Zi su_____,:'Richard H. Barnes Recording Secretary /c
