HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-01-20-SC-min • Page 4 January 20, 1981 A budget meeting of the Lexington School Committee was held Tuesday, January 20, 1981, at 8:00 p.m. , in the School Administration Building. Present were: Gaudet, Shaw, Brown, Michelman, Student Representative Anderson. Also present were: Lawson, Pierson, Monderer, Maclnnes, DiGiim- marino, Barnes . The Superintendent began the discussion by stating that the 1981-82 1981-82 Preliminary Budget being presented was for a twelve-month period, had been BUDGET developed and reviewed over several months, reflected requests from staff via program managers , had been screened by program managers, Central Of- fice staff and himself through a series of meetings, and provided funds to maintain the same staffing levels and quality of education. The School Committee then reviewed each program as follows : Program Area 1105 Kindergarten 1110 Art 1115 Business Concern was expressed over the program objectives since clear achievements for students were not noted. Dr. Pierson agreed to review with Dr. Llewellyn. 1121 Drama 1125 Foreign Languages 1126 TESOL 1130 Home Economics 1131 Child Care 1135 Industrial Arts Mr. Michelman asked about Aviation Science and relationship of courses given at L.H.S. vs. M.M.V.T.S. Dr. Pierson agreed to look into the matter and report back to the Com- mittee. 1145 Mathematics Concern was expressed by Mr. Michelman that specific and sufficient courses be made avail- able to the advanced student. Dr, Lawson not- ed that many students in junior high and some at the elementary level were receiving advanced courses by attending either Grade 7 courses or Grade 10 courses . Dr. Lawson suggested that Dr. Clune be invited to the next meeting to re- view the offerings in the Mathematics Department. 1150 Music 1161 Physical Education Dr. Lawson noted that there was a 3.4 reduction in staff projected. He said that the placement of two Muzzey physical education staff had yet to be completed. He said if not enough positions for tenured staff were available due to the re- ductions, he might return to the Committee with a staffing recommendation. 1162 Intramural Sports As a result of questions in this area, Dr. Pier- son agreed to review the matter with Ralph Lord. 1163 Interscholastic Athletics 1170 Reading • Page 5 January 20, 1981 Program Area 1175 Science Mr. Michelman requested a review of the High School science offerings due to the projected decrease of two staff. Dr. Lawson said Dr. Clune would be in- vited to review this area. 1180 Social Studies 1186 LEAP An error in allocation of funds was noted. The account was in need of an added $4,500. The matter was to be reviewed by Dr. Pierson. 1187 Experienced- Based Education A request was made that the number of students involved be included in this program as well as other programs.
