Copies of the Nurses ' Handbook were presented to the School Corn- NURSES '
mittee. Dr. Monderer reviewed the development of the Handbook and in- HANDBOOK
troduced School Nurse Joan Goudreau, who was available to answer ques-
tions.
Mr. Michelman asked if the book was a compendium of that which
existed and not a proposal of new role description, etc. Dr. Monderer
and Mrs. Goudreau stated it was a compendium, not a collection of new
roles, etc.
Mrs. Shaw suggested the book be made available to parents via
school and Town libraries. Dr. Lawson said announcements would be made
as to the placements.
The School Committee and Superintendent extended compliments to
the staff for the development of the Handbook.
The annual count of special needs students was distributed by Dr. 1980 ANNUAL
Monderer and Paul Lombard. They reviewed each category and commented COUNT OF
on prior year comparisons. (See attached sheet) SPECIAL NEEDS
STUDENTS
Mrs. Swanson asked what the role of the advisor to the "Musket" ADVISOR ROLE-
would entail. "MUSKET"
Mr. Michelman emphasized that the raising of this topic should
not be construed as an indication of concern by the School Committee
about the "Musket's" presentation of material critical of school of-
ficials, but as an item of general review, since the "Musket" is part
of the education program pertaining to journalism. Mrs. Swanson said
her concern was regarding inaccuracies in statements made in some ar-
ticles only.
Dr. Lawson suggested that if the issue were going to be clarified,
Dr. Clune should be in attendance. Dr. Pierson agreed to review the
matter with Dr. Clune and report at a future meeting.
Mrs. Shaw asked Mr. Michelman if he considered a response to the
article. Mr. Micheiman said, "no," he didn't , but it was a fair ques-
tion. After discussion, he said he would consider a written response
to the "Musket" and would coordinate the answer with Mr. Maclnnes, who
may wish to add items.
