HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-11-04-SC-min Page 74 November 4, 1980 A meeting of the Lexington School Committee was held on Tuesday, November 4, 1980 at 4:00 p.m. in the School Administration Building. Present were: Swanson, Gaudet , Shaw, Michelman, Brown, and student 'representative Anderson. Also present were: Lawson, Pierson, Monderer, DiGiammarino, Maclnnes, and Barnes. The vote on the Executive session minutes of October 7, June 24, MINUTES July 1, July 15 and September 8 was deferred until the minutes were reviewed by Town Counsel. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, it was VOTED: to approve the schedule of payments as listed on the SCHEDULE OF attached sheet . (Swanson, Gaudet, Unanimous) PAYMENTS Mr. Barnes stated that on October 22 an agreement with NAGE Local R1-239 was reached at a meeting attended by Dr. Lawson, Mr. Miller, Mr. Maclnnes, Dr. DiGiammarino and himself as well as the NAGE Negotiating Team (Mr. Delfino, Mr. Pasciuto, Mr. Martin, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Malone, Mr. Mottla and State Mediator, Mr. Walter Diehl. He added that local R1-239 ratified the contract at its meeting on October 27, 1980. Dr. Lawson said the 3-year agreement was a good one for both Town and employees and recommended ratification, Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, it was VOTED: to ratify the the attached agreement reached by NAGE Local NAGE RI-239 and Lexington School Committee Negotiators. (Swanson, AGREEMENT Michelman, Unanimous) Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, it was VOTED: to accept the new Personnel as listed on the attached NEW sheet . (Gaudet , Michelman, Unanimous) PERSONNEL VOTED: to accept the personnel changes as listed on the attached PERSONNEL sheet . (Gaudet , Michelman, Unanimous) CHANGES VOTED: to accept the personnel changes as listed on the attached addendum sheet . (Swanson, Michelmau,Unanimous) PERSONNEL CHANGES VOTED: to accept the exception for psychotherapy provision as PSYCHOTHERAPHY listed on the attached sheet . (Gaudet , Swanson, Unanimous) PROVIDER (EXCEPTION) Page 75 November 4, 1980 Copies of the Nurses ' Handbook were presented to the School Corn- NURSES ' mittee. Dr. Monderer reviewed the development of the Handbook and in- HANDBOOK troduced School Nurse Joan Goudreau, who was available to answer ques- tions. Mr. Michelman asked if the book was a compendium of that which existed and not a proposal of new role description, etc. Dr. Monderer and Mrs. Goudreau stated it was a compendium, not a collection of new roles, etc. Mrs. Shaw suggested the book be made available to parents via school and Town libraries. Dr. Lawson said announcements would be made as to the placements. The School Committee and Superintendent extended compliments to the staff for the development of the Handbook. The annual count of special needs students was distributed by Dr. 1980 ANNUAL Monderer and Paul Lombard. They reviewed each category and commented COUNT OF on prior year comparisons. (See attached sheet) SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS Mrs. Swanson asked what the role of the advisor to the "Musket" ADVISOR ROLE- would entail. "MUSKET" Mr. Michelman emphasized that the raising of this topic should not be construed as an indication of concern by the School Committee about the "Musket's" presentation of material critical of school of- ficials, but as an item of general review, since the "Musket" is part of the education program pertaining to journalism. Mrs. Swanson said her concern was regarding inaccuracies in statements made in some ar- ticles only. Dr. Lawson suggested that if the issue were going to be clarified, Dr. Clune should be in attendance. Dr. Pierson agreed to review the matter with Dr. Clune and report at a future meeting. Mrs. Shaw asked Mr. Michelman if he considered a response to the article. Mr. Micheiman said, "no," he didn't , but it was a fair ques- tion. After discussion, he said he would consider a written response to the "Musket" and would coordinate the answer with Mr. Maclnnes, who may wish to add items. It was VOTED: to convene in executive session at 5:03 p.m. to discuss matters pertaining to collective bargaining and litigation strategy. R1-239. It is subject to ratification by the N.A.G.E. membership and by the School Committee. If accepted by the N.A.G.E. membership, it will be presented to the School Committee on or before November 4, 1980. Following are the terms of the agreement. ARTICLE V - Wages E. Wages, effective July 1, 1980, - $850. For July 1, 1981 - $950. For July 1, 1982 - $1 ,000. G. Effective July 1, 1980, employees covered by this contract shall receive longevity payments as follows: 10 - 14 years of continuous service in Lexington $150.00 15 - 19 years of continuous service in Lexington . $200.00 204- years of continuous service in Lexington $300.00 Effective July 1, 1982, employees covered by this contract shall receive longevity payments as follows : 10 - 14 years of continuous service in Lexington $200.00 15 - 19 years of continuous service in Lexington $250.00 20 years of continuous service in Lexington $350.00 ARTICLE XIV - Tools and Safety Shoes B. Each covered employee will be paid a total of sixty dollars ($60) in two (2) payments of thirty dollars ($30) each, (July and January) , for 1980-1981 and 1981-1982. For 1982-1983 this allowance will be seventy dollars ($70) , paid in two (2) payments of thirty-five ($35) each , (July and January) , ARTICLE VI - Inter-Building Travel Reimbursement Maintenance men and spare custodians whose regular duties require inter-building travel or travel elsewhere, approved by the Administrative Assistant, during working hours , will be reimbursed at the rate of $300 plus fifteen cents ($ . 15) per mile. If the price of gasoline reaches $2.00 per gallon, the parties will renegotiate the per mile rate.
