Secretary’s Minutes of November 7, 2018
Financial Update
Koren reported we are 41% expended on the municipal side which is about where we expect to be. There are no update endowment fund figures. On the non-municipal side, the Foundation
is chipping away at the loan from the Endowment for the Transformative Spaces Project, The balance is about $30,000, they are on pace to pay it off early.
Administrative Update
Koren reported that we just received a resignation from a long time staff person. The position is in the Bibliographical Services Department. We will be posting that job soon to the
Mass Board of Library Commissioners website. If trustees feel we should public locally, just let Koren know. We hope to hire someone with Asian language skills. Howard suggesting
sending the posting to CAAL or IAL. Joe suggested posting it to the TMMA list.
Meeting Room Updates
Koren reported that we are continue to grapple with outside groups who want to offer programs for youth in our meeting rooms. For the moment, we are deferring decisions for those groups.
New Business
Koren informed the trustees that Monday evening the Turkish community is hosting a ribbon cutting for the new Turkish language collection, the latest addition to the World Language Collection.
The community group has invited the Turkish consulate. Howard asked if these materials have been circulating. Koren said they will be available starting Monday so it is too early
to tell.
150th Birthday Celebration
Koren updated trustees on the plan for the 150th Birthday celebration taking place on Sunday, January 27th at 2:00 PM. So far we plan to have a LHS choral group perform and lead the
singing of Happy Birthday. Corduroy the Bear will be available for pictures under the balloon arch near the Idea Wall. The Friends will be giving away commemorative bags and teddy
bears. We will have a strolling close-up magician. Koren asked if anyone from the board would like to speak. Joe will get back to Koren about anyone else we should ask to speak.
He asked that we invite previous members of the board. Alssesandro asked if any of the decedents of the Cary family are living and we should consider inviting them.
The Foundation will be hosting a gala on March 23, 2019. More details to come.
Historic District Commission Appointment
Joe reported that Mark Connor is currently serving as associate member of the HDC. His term is up and he would like to continue. Is there any objection to him continuing? Howard made
a motion to affirm the appointment of Mark Connor to continue as an HDC member. Claire seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
Library Logo
Koren reported that after the 2019 events, we will drop the “150th” in our logo. As part of our logo design, Koren asked if we can think about removing “memorial” from our logo but not
change the official name. She explained that the name was changed and voted by Town Meeting after the death of Mrs. Cary. After discussion, Howard suggested that we probably need to
get input from Suzie. Koren will be convening a stakeholder committee. The consensus is that trustees will have the ultimate authority.
Adjournment
Howard made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Claire. The motion passed unanimously.
