Those in attendance were: Brown, Swanson, Gaudet, Michelman, Hoffman. Also present were: Lawson, Macinnes, DiGiammarino, Pierson, Barnes, Monderer. The budget discussion began with a review of the General Support - 1979-80 Operational Services budget request for 1979-80. Mr. Maclnnes reviewed SCHOOL BUDGET the operation, maintenance, and security programs. Mr. Barnes reviewed the pupil transportation categories, regular, special, and non-public. After a brief review of the remaining program budgets, Mr. Brown stated that he was pleased with the preparation of the budget. He said, considering a $1,000,000 increase that was built into the budget due to wage settlements prior to budget development, the 2.1% increase seemed reasonable and reflected a great deal of effort on the part of all to respond to fiscal restraint as well as maintenance of a quality program. He congratulated the Superintendent and administration for the fine job. The Superintendent requested authorization to proceed with the dup- lication of the budget document in preparation for the Town Meeting and the Information Meeting scheduled for March 14. Mr. Michelman suggested that the publication of the document be with the understanding that the budget was open to further consideration prior to Town Meeting. It was the consensus of the School Committee to proceed with this understanding. A brief discussion was held regarding the positions of the speech therapists and librarians who had expressed concern about reductions con- tained in the 1979-80 school budget. It was noted that if there were needs in September, after class loads were calculated, additional speech therapist assistance would be sought. Mr. Hoffman complimented the librarians for their document which he felt was perhaps the most literate document that he had received while a mem- ber of the School Committee. No action was taken on the requests of the speech therapists and librarians. Mr. Hoffman then said that it would be most helpful to the School Committee if increases could be listed by object code so members could see the differences before and after salary increases. Dr. DiGiammarino said it was planned to include such information the next time the budget was developed. It was VOTED: to adjourn at 5:44 p.m. (Michelman, Swan, Unanimous) Respectfully submitte$! -Richard H. Barnes Reccrding Secretary is
