(Bran, Michelman, Unanimous) CLASSIFIEL Retirement , Leave of Absence Dr. Lawson presented the names of staff recommended for re-elec- RE-ELECTION OF tion. He reviewed the Evaluation Instrument used for teacher evalua- STAFF tion and explained the role and identification of the comprehensive and (PROFESSIONAL) supplementary evaluators. Also reviewed were the rating scale and the placement recommendations of evaluators. He further stated that the forms were reviewed by the administrators at the Central Office and an inten- sive review session was held for those persons eligible for tenure. He felt that the process was comprehensive. He explained the eight attach- ments presented to the school committee. They contained most staff be- ing recommended, but a few attachments list some staff who were in a "hold" position until positions opened. Others were being recommended for re-election but increments were being withheld. He also noted that some names may not be seen due to the fact that they will not be recom- mended for re-election. Mrs. Gaudet asked if there were any opportunities for public input into the evaluation of teachers. Dr. Lawson said that parents did have opportunity to talk or correspond with principals, department heads, ad- ministrators at any time. He noted that letters received would be shared with staff. If the author did not wish them shared, then they would not be used. Dr. Hoffman noted that even though the superintendent of schools due to the brief time available, may have made the impression that the process was not a comprehensive one, he wished the record to show the fact that the process was intensive. Dr. Lawson added that principals were having a formal evaluation this year and one criterion used in their evaluation would be the quality of their evaluations of his/her personnel. He explained that only persons with written evaluations were being recommended to the school committee. It was moved that pages 2-19, containing salary recommendations for those listed be accepted. (Michelman, Brown, Unanimous) . It was VOTED: to accept the recommendation of the superintendent of schools re- garding the staff listed on Page 20.
