The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on "uWednesday,
Iarch 5, 1969, at 7-30 P-1J., in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Buil-
ding, Lexington. Members present were Commissioners 'Uilbur T.F. Jaquith,
Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary and 1;4ax ZI'_. Straw and Associate
Commissioners Franklin C . Hudson, S. Lawrence 'AThipple and Gladys t .
H400re.
Hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the application of Arlex Auto
Driving School for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the
erection and display of three signs on the building at 21 Depot Square,
which is within the Battle Green District . The Chairman read the letter
of application and the notice of hearing. 11r. Nyman Garber of the School
appeared and presented scale drawings of the proposed signs and photo-
graphs of their proposed locations . Associate Hudson pointed out that
the number "21�6 was already in use in Depot Square , Mr. Garber will
check with the Town Engineer' s office for a correct number. Changes in
the signs were suggested by Commission members and the applicant will
return at a later date with corrected. drawings . D;'o other persons having
appeared, the hearing was adjourned at 8 :45 P-IM-
Hearing was scheduled at 8:15 P.1114. on the application of the Trus-
tees of Almarjo Realty Trust for a Certificate of Appropriateness with
respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the wooden
building in the rear of 1844 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the
Battle Green District . Neither the applicants nor their representative
appeared. Upon a telephone call to Frederick J. Conroy, Attorney for
the applicants, it was learned that the Board of Appeals had denied the
application submitted to them by Almarjo Realty Trust and that therefore
the application before the Historic Districts Commission .'could be ,with-
drawn. A letter of withdrawal will be sent to the Commission by Attor-
ney Conroy.
Adjourned hearing was scheduled at 9 : 00 P.M. on the application of
the Lexington Sister City Committee for a Certificate of Appropriateness
with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the premises at
11 Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District . Neither the
applicant nor a representative appeared. A telephone call by Chairman
Jaquith to Mrs . Sperduto, Chairman of the Committee, revealed that
corrected scale drawings of the proposed sign were not completed. The
drawings will be submitted at a. later time .
The Chairman presented the following bills to the Com _ission: A
bill from Betty Adam in the amount of ` 10.00 and two bills from Elizabeth
Flynn, one in the amount of �,,$46 .25 for services and one in the amount of
?$2 .69 for postage . Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was Voted to
process the bills for payment.
An adjourned meeting is scheduled at 7.45 P.Pr11., on Tuesday, March 18,
1969 to consider the application of Arlex Auto Driving School.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 :30 P .M.
