The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting immediately
following the hearing on the application of the Hancock
Ccn^ regational Cluroh. All Commissioners and alternates were
Dr sent.
The Commissioners discussed the petition of the Hancock
Congregatinnal Church at some length. Mr. Davis read a letter
from Dr.Norman H.noyer , abutter to the vest, in which he
tated his opposition fo the aidition. Aftor consider-ble
discusrion of the effect such an addition would have on
the appearance of the Battle Green by the Corrm issioners, it
was voted unanimously to de y the application and the
Commissioners proceeded to draft the deter,• ination.

e..change of Acts, maps, forms etc. Pir.Taylor will reply to

recently hell at New Ocean House.
Letter read from Miss Tuttle of 12 Hancock St.regarding fence
and barn on Masonic property wlich she dislikes. Mr.Davis
• talked, with her and advised her to contact trustees of Masonic
Temple .
Discussion on paintin and sign on store no being occuppied
by Sherwin-Williams Paint. Both Mr.Taylor and Mr.Smith have
been in touch with them and Mr. Davis will contact them again,
so they will Pet in an application for painting store and

The Historic Districts Commission held a hearing on the
application for a certificate of appropriateneee on the
Hancock k,cngregational Cxiurch for an addition o their
ui;.ilding at 1312 Aass. Ave. This was held Nov. 5, 1967

kr ravis read. the notice Jr.Clifford Hunt , Chairman of
Luiiding Committee submitted preliminary- plans, a sketch
of building/W° rou.nd floor plan. These will be presented
first, the decision of the Commission given and then another
hearing cn the final plans. Addition is tc be in front of
the existing El. Fieldstone on old building, probably some
stucco- darker blended stucco in color so it would blend in
with the fieldstone. An idea , not a final decision. Field-
etone around doors and windows . Have been eatchine Library

no used in olend. Possibi its of cement blocks but finished
so outside would e stucco. Roof--no de i:.ion yet. Slate on
old building but probably would not be used as too expensive

Yrs. Ralph Davis: Member of Church. First thinks Clurch is th
only eyesore on the Green. Aould rather wait until find out
what can be done with new Church. Dr. .Hunt: 150-2dO in reaee

Mrs. Merriam: Had they looked into possibility of using ;iny room
in new Hayden building as a temporary measure : Dr.Hunt: No.

etc. Mr. Greeley: Present wing certainly not appropriate .

Parsons and Taylor, discussed the petition of the Hancock Congregational
Church at some length. After zonsiderable discussion of the
effect such an addition would have on the appear ,nce of the Battle
Green by the Commissioners , it w ,s voted unanimously to deny the
application The Commissionejs then proceeded to draft the
determination.
