HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-12-21-SLC-min Town of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of December 21, 2015 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on December 21, 2015 at the Hadley Building. A quorum of five was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair Marcia Gens, Dan Voss, Rick Reibstein, Todd Rhodes Members Absent: None Other Attendees: Nyree Bekarian mac The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm. Solar Task Force Update (M.Sandeen) • M. Sandeen provided an update on the Hartwell Solar installation project. • The interconnect service agreement has been established with Eversource and Solar City. • The Conservation Commission is reviewing the proposal and raising questions regarding the canopy. Massachusetts Solar Energy Bill (M. Sandeen) • M. Sandeen provided a update on the status of the state's Solar Energy bill. Better Buildings Task Force (M. Sandeen) • M. Sandeen discussed the "Getting to Net Zero"initiative following the approach established by the City of Cambridge: "Report, Reduce, Produce, Purchase" • Need to establish a "Getting to Zero Task Force". The Committee discussed stakeholders who should be represented on the Task Force. ■ Business Leaders: ■ Local Business: ■ Historic Districts: ■ Architects ■ Political Leaders ■ Non-Profit: (e.g., Lions Club, GWAC, Rotary, Churches) ■ Planning/Economic Development: • The Committee voted unanimously to submit a warrant article to Town Meeting to request funding to pay for consulting services to support the "Getting to Net Zero" initiative. • M. Sandeen presented the results of assessments of energy system options for Diamond Middle School. The committee supported a recommendation install the Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system along with the installation of solar panels. Page 1 of 2 • D. Voss recommended considering fund raising efforts to help pay for consulting services to support the schools building programs. Food and Schools (M. Gans) • A pilot program has been approved by the Superintendent and scheduled to begin in January 2016. There are three schools in the pilot and have the support of all PTAs.
