Battle Green Master Plan Dawn McKenna discussed the Battle Green master plan sign concept behind the Minuteman Statue. The Tourism Committee needs to give the designer, Michelle Jarvis, guidance on what we want to include in these three signs. Potential content could include information about the Visitors Center, the website, etc. The committee discussed limiting the content to explain April 19th. Additional information should lead visitors to the website. Committee members also discussed the Historical Society sign project. Jon Himmel encouraged the society to consider incorporating technology and audio. David Pinsonneault and Don Mills outlined the landscape plan to connect the Battle Green with the new Visitors Center. The goal is to have all landscaping complete when the building opens. 2. Visitors Center Project Dawn McKenna alerted the committee that the project will go before the Board of Selectmen on December 17th for input on the project. Michelle Jarvis presented the proposed exhibit plan for the Visitors Center, focusing on the five focus areas of the program: Revolutionary Heritage, USS Lexington, conservation/recreation space, what there is to see and do in Lexington, and the bikeway. Michelle explained the necessary tension that exists when designing this space between providing enough information to orient visitors, but not enough that they avoid exploring other offerings. Michelle's presentation included fonts and graphics. Fred Johnson raised a concern over the reverse type proposal for the exhibits. This style can be more difficult to read. The committee discussed several elements in the proposal, including the content on either side of the information counter, and the Lexington information wall. Concerns included the duplication of content, more space to showcase events, concerns regarding a paper bulletin board, and emphasizing the connection to businesses. The committee also discussed the self-serve kiosk. Members considered using more than one iPad to access the information. A motion was made to focus on these three areas to the right and left of the information desk, and the back wall. 1. Right solution for the calendar, 2. Map and panels 3. Promoting businesses and things to do. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. Dawn McKenna outlined the need to stakeholder desires to be reflected in the building. Michelle Jarvis discussed her role in evaluating the experience from the perspective of the visitor. The lower level content was discussed briefly. The budget for this space, included graphics to visually showcase a Lexington theme. The proposed material is a custom wallpaper.
