HomeMy WebLinkAboutTransportation Advisory Committee - TAC - Charge - Revised October 2012TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Members: 7 Appointed by: Board of Selectmen Length of Term: 3 years, staggered Appointments made: September 30 Meeting Times: Monthly or as needed Description The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) initiates and supports efforts to meet the transportation needs of Lexington's residents and advises the Selectmen and other town boards and committees on issues that concern alternatives to single occupancy vehicle travel. The Committee works with Lexington's Transportation Services Coordinator on issues and projects related to Lexpress, the town's mini -bus service. Members recommend Lexpress schedules, routes and fares to the Board of Selectmen. The committee and Lexington's Transportation Services Coordinator also respond to and advocate for MBTA and other public transportation services that support Lexington residents and encourage regional transportation alternatives. Some members serve as liaisons to, or participate on, local and regional transportation- related organizations or committees. Criteria for Membership Members should demonstrate support for transportation services, including public transportation, as they affect Lexington. Knowledge of transportation services and facilities is desirable but not required. Non - voting ex- officio members of this Committee should be those persons already representing the town on transit matters. Ref.: Charge adopted by Board of Selectmen, October 27, 1975 Charge amended in 1982 to increase membership to 9. Selectmen designated as Special Municipal Employees on January 9, 1984. Selectmen reaffirmed designation as Special Municipal Employees on January 18, 2006. Amended in 2012 to change membership from 9 to 7, to allow for flexibility in frequency of meetings, and to better reflect the broad based transportation- related aspects of the committee's work.
