Appointed by the Town Manager: Recreation Committee Chair Rick DeAngelis, Vice-Chair Lis ah Rhodes, Lisa O'Brien, Ruixi Yuan and Francesca Pfr Appointed by the'Town Manager: Director of Recreation and Community Programs Melissa Battite, since January 2017. The Recreation and Community Programs Department provides seasonal and year round, affordable, quality programs at well maintained facilities meeting the needs of the community. Access to community programs and resources offers participants affordable opportunities for a wide variety of passive and active recreation, wellness and leisure activities it promoting social, emotional, cognitive well-being and wellness for our residents of all ages and abilities. The Department operates as an Enterprise where program and facility fees cover the direct cost of operations. There are three divisions within the department; Recreation, Community Center and the Pine Meadows Golf Club. With thea ii the management of the Community Center in 2015, tax levy funds support 3 FTE's at the Center. The Recreation & Community Programs Department operating budget may increase or decrease year to year to meet changes in enrollment and facility use demands. The Director of Recreation & Community Programs, through the Recreation Committee, sets fees with thea rval of the Board of Selectmen. The Department operating budget supports staff that manage and deliver programs along with the supplies needed tooperate those programs. Revenue generated through the Recreation Enterprise help fund Capital Improvement Projects and financially supports other Town services including those provided by the Department of Public Works to thea is facilities, tennis courts and golf course. Reconstruction of the to green was completed in April 2018. • FY1 7 CPA Project— Park Improvement/Athletic Field Improvement—Adams Park. The ADA-accessible path at Adams Park was completed in August 2018. • FY1 8 CPA Project—Town Pool Renovation (Construction phase). This phase of the project was ongoing throughout the past year and is scheduled to be completed in November 2018. • FY1 8 CPA Project— Park & Playground Improvement— Franklin, Munroe, and Center lyro® . The new in sets at Franklin, Munroe, ano Center were installed in May 2018. • FY1 8 CPA Project— Park Improvement/Athletic Field Improvement— Irrigation Upgrade Project. A new greens mower and trim mower were purchased in August 2017. Partnerships with: • Classes, Workshops & Activities: o Lexington Police Department ■ RAD self-defense classes. One class designed for women & one class for children during the April Vacation week • Community Events: LHS SADD Club & Human Services ■ Annual Haunted House LPS, Human Services & Youth Services Council — ■ Middle School Early Release Programs -trips to Kimball Farm, Nashoba Tubing, Boda Borg and Launch Trampoline. Lexington Education Foundation, Yamaha School of Music & Academy of Creative Arts in Burlington ■ LEF "Unplug Event" offering a morning of yoga, dancing, music, and arts and crafts for the whole family * Lexington Police, LPS, and the Bicycle Advisory Committee ■ Fifth Annual Bike Smart Safety Program .D Community Stakeholders ■ Community Open House showcasing Yamaha Music School of Boston, Empow Studios, Lex Media, Bina Farm, Cotting School, Cary Library, Minuteman Community Education, Hayden Recreation, Russian School of Math, SNAP, Munroe Center for the Arts, Lexington Christian Academy, LexFun, Lextended Day, Lexington Police Department and Lexington Human Services • NFL Flag Football League —490 participants in FY18 including 98 footballs as well as a flag belt and jersey for each participant. New Initiatives and Services: • Battle Green Tennis League —the Department continued its enhanced partnership with the Battle Green Tennis League (BGTL) this year. League members purchased their tennis ID card through the Department's website and the BGTL website was hosted on the Department's website as well. Information posted on the website included league rules, session availability forms, league roster, and match schedule. • PlayLocal —the Department implemented a new online tennis court reservation system called PlayLocal. By going to www. local.com, people could view court availability and make reservations on one of the 17 Town-owned tennis courts. • Programs: Pump It Up Basketball, Adaptive Multi-Sports,Clinic, Spring NFL FLAG Football League, Yoga in the Park, Minuteman Strength & Conditioning Clinic, Player Development Program (PDP) Girls Basketball & Leadership Academy, Friday Night Hoops, and Walk ACROSS Lexington. 11/28/2018 12:49 PM LEXINGTON RECREATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT Grants &fyDding: A total of$41,800 was received in grant funding serving 41 families and a total of 96 individual registrations. • Community Endowment of Lexington - $1,000 o Offered two CPR/First Aid/AED courses and one train the trainer course • Fund for Lexington - $15,000 o Scholarships for swim passes, summer camp and out of school time activities. Approximately $5,100 went towards swim passes/swim lessons, approximately $6,200 went towards summer camps/sports clinics/tennis/Comm unity Center programs, and the remainder went towards school-year programming. • Dana Home Foundation - $25,800 o Funding tooffer Forever Fit, a cardio and weight training program that combines group classes with personal training to Lexington residents age 60 and up. This results-proven program was funded for a third straight year. Recreation Division: • Continued to offer a variety of non-sports programs and clinics throughout the summer and school year for children and teens. • Ongoing success of Adaptive Basketball, Smart Start Basketball, Youth Basketball Clinics and In-Town Basketball Leagues, High School Basketball League, Summer Basketball League, Ski and Snowboard programs at Nashoba Valley, American Red Cross Swim Lessons, Minuteman Summer Sports Clinics, Tennis Lessons and Clinics, and year-round Women's Fitness Boot Camp and Adult Badminton. • Increased participation in NFL FLAG Football League, American Red Cross Swim Lessons, BUDA Ultimate Frisbee Clinics, Ice Skating Lessons, Youth and Teen Rock Climbing, Youth and Adult Volleyball, Youth and Adult Tennis Lessons, Adult Pickleball, Summer Basketball Skills Clinics, and Evening Drop-in Gym @ LHS Field House. • Ninth year of complete implementation of USTA Quick Start Tennis Program for youth summer lessons. There was a food truck, DJ, prizes, and a movie played. • Programs included 60+ wellness activities, a myriad of adult and youth classes and clinics, 7 Family Fun night activities, school vacation programs and youth special events. 11/28/2018 12:49 PM LEXINGTON RECREATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT Pine Meadows Golf Course 0 333 Golf League participants (2 youth leagues and 15 adult leagues) 0 45 Golf ID cards issued. 0 Received donated bench from the Sr. Golf League. Bench was installed at the 4th Tee Box area. • A new greens mower and new trim mower were purchased in August 2017 and the renovation of the 01 green was completed in April 2018. Miscellaneous • New LOGO. The department rolled out a new logo to represent and capture the many programs and services. • Follow us. The department is now on Instagram, adding to the social media platform is also includes a department Facebook page. • ONLINE REGISTRATION PROGRAM, implemented in March 2010, has seen an increasing number of residents registering online. 9,296 of 25,367 total registrations were processed online in FY2018. Online registrations represented 37% of total transactions and accounted for$956,219 of the total $1,695,070 program revenue in FY2018 (56%). * Automated Customer Service counter was introduced at the swimming pool to aIl ow the transactions to be processed utilizing the department software and streamline the administrative support to this facility. * 68 Coaches received weekly practice plans through Alpha Sports for our in-town youth basketball leagues and clinics. * Facilitated 3 Tournaments (Soccer Resort, Needham Soccer Club Memorial Day Tournament, and LHS Boys Lacrosse Jamboree) in FY18. * Private Run Camps: Coordinated the use of the Clarke Middle School, Diamond Middle School, and Lincoln Park fields for 7 privately run camps/clinics (Lexington United Soccer Club, Blue Cheetah Lacrosse Camp and Nike Field Hockey Camp). 11/28/2018 12049 PM
