HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-06-07-SEPAC-min Lexington Special Education Parent Advisory Council(SEPAL) Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) Business Meeting Minutes June 7,2018 Attendees: Robin Abrams,Alessandro Alessandrini, Carissa Black, Bonnie Brodner,Agnes Chan, Kathy Cunningham, Sarah Cuthbertson, Emma Harding, Patrica Jacotin, Nicole Diggins Locher, Heidi Mann, Carol Millard, Lisa O'Brien, Elisa Phair, Colette Powell, Mona Roy, Barbara White, Lori Wright,Jennifer Yaar Called to order: 9:09 am Adjourned: 10:28 am • Treasurer Report: balance is$4181.28 • Membership is at 116. • DLP Update o Workshop was held during the week of May 28. o Ellen Sugita, Dr. C, and Andrew Baker attended. o Conversations will continue with new superintendent Dr. Hackett • HRC Survey update o Survey results presented at 6/5/18 School Committee meeting. o Intimidation issues present in parent comments. o Suggested next steps: collect data on all protected groups, increase transparency. o Additional reports in the fall will be scheduled with Dr. Hackett. o Discussion about hiring additional consultants to investigate issues. • Calendar Review o June 15 LEF event—board members to be available at a table to distribute SEPAC/SEPTA information. o November 29: Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid presentation has been confirmed. o Other ideas: Presentations by Maura Sullivan or Amy Weinstock on their ongoing advocacy work, Social Thinking, October dyslexia awareness parent panel, Dan Habib Intelligent Lives—possibly through parent donation or LEF grant? o October Disability Awareness month, possible partnership with local businesses that focus on disability issues. o Outreach to private schools and out-of-district parents. o Continued coordination with PTA/PTO/PPC organizations. o Possibility to schedule more coffees. o SEPAC is registered as an approved Community Service
