Reports/Updates:
• Belmont Country Club property - Keith has been communicating with Carol Kowalski. Per-
mission for public access will be part of an MOU (memorandum of understanding) between
the town and the developer, but not funds for trail construction. And this all assumes that
Town Meeting votes in favor of a zoning change.
• QR codes - Bob has been working on finding weatherproof stickers. Need to contact Kathy
Santos, as the link currently takes users the brochure rather than the map itself.
• Sign post at Clarke School still needs to be put in. Bob will keep after Shawn Newell, needs
DigSafe approval.
• Route K - Charles Hornig sent Mal the deed for the parcel between 41 and 43 Peacock Farm
Rd. This should help resolve the access issue with Sutherland Woods. Mal has spoken with
Carol Kowalski, but unsure if Town Counsel has looked at it. When Keith returns from travel
he and Mal will check in with Carol and see if we can now install a signpost.
• Accessible Trail - Keith has spoken with Michael Martignetti and Victoria Buckley from the
Commission on Disability. The Parker Meadow ADA trail is now on the back burner in favor
of the larger Willards Woods project. The CPA funds for Parker Meadow were not enough to
complete design AND construction. If GCC work with the Commission on Disability, we may
be able to garner some funds. A meeting is scheduled for November 5, which Mal will attend.
• Bridge School trail boardwalk NOI - Mal has finished up most of it. Keith will check in with
Karen Mullins about whether to submit directly, or have Karen do a site visit first.
• Annual Report - Keith has written up, on back of Agenda. We should think about planning for
the potential Community Center trail.
• Don and Keith will replace the post at Lower Vine Brook.
Current Business:
• None
New Business:
• Environmental Bond Bill - Susan and Keith visited with state Senator Cindy Friedman, her
staff, and some people from Representative Jay Kaufman's office to discuss the Bill. There is
an earmark for $1,000,000 for a trail between the Community Center and Lexington High
School. This came about because Mark Sandeen contacted Keith about potential projects
that could use funding. To maximize the possibility of having the funds authorized to be dis-
bursed, we should seek a partner, such as a local business, Conservation Department or the
Dana Home and matching funds from public and private sources. We should also seek sup-
port from the Selectmen and other Town Committees as well as invite the Governor or Lieu-
tenant Governor to look at the project site. Conservation will, of course, have to be involved,
but we should also include the School Dept and the Recreation Dept, as well as the Commu-
nity Center. Due to the time frame on this, we may have to put some other trail projects on
hold. It would be good to start the planning now, since we will need a survey and wetland de-
lineations. Michelle Ciccolo as our new state representative will be able to help get us in po-
sition for a successful request for funds. Keith will set up a meeting with Karen Mullins to dis-
cuss next steps for this project.
• Keith, Mike, Eileen, and Richard Canale all attended a meeting with BJ Dunn, the new direc-
tor of the Minute Man National Historic Park. We cannot put signs in the Park, but we can put
them at the Park boundaries if we want ACROSS routes to use Park trails. We can also
show their trails on our maps. They would like to have a marked route from the Park to the
Lexington Green. The old Sheraton Hotel was going to fund a trail, but it never got built. GCC
can negotiate with the hotels for routes to access Cranberry Hill and Lincoln St. We cannot
mark on Fiske Hill, but can show routes through there on our maps.
• There is a Scenic Byway meeting scheduled for October 15. Mike will attend.
• Discussion of meeting date - it was decided to meet the 3rd Thursday of each month (except
when we change it). Changing the time was discussed, but no change was decided upon.
Pending Items:
• Concord Ave land management plan (Alex) - a short discussion of this took place. It would
be good to have a LMP in place if/when we want to make a Brookhaven connection.
• Update from Proposed Routes task force (Keith)
Next Meeting: November 15, 2018, 4:30-6:OOpm, Ellen Stone Room
