7:45-8:45AM Bowman School Conference Room
Present: Seth Moeller, Lauren Avery, Roseanne Barbacano, Jenny Corduck, Melinda Webster
Loof, Karin Ornstein, & Ellen Day
Recorder: Rosanne Barbacano
Call to Order: Jenny Corduck at 7:50AM
Welcome to new staff representative - Ellen Day
• Announcements & Updates
• One administration person on site council: Therefore Ellen Day will be
present instead of Beth Glick.
• Jenny's Parent News: Will include a blurb about site council alerting community
that we are seeking a community representative for site council.
• Changing start times: Letter went out which highlights a 45 minute later start
for LHS and a 5-15 minute later start for elementary, With this proposal, our 7-8
buses would arrive 8:40-8:45am (due to no addition to bus fleet). CONCERNS
EXPRESSED INCLUDE: bus arrival causes hardship for bus riding families, a
time issue of a "lull" in arrival times for a number of students, no outdoor morning
arrival time and impact of after-school programs. There are lots of opportunity for
feedback on this issue-both "live" and by a Google format. Consider"early bird"
program? The proposed morning schedule: 8:20 playground is open for
students, 8:35 first bell, 8:50 second bell and ending school at 3:20.
• Review of 2018 MCAS Data Slides
• MCAS is part of a bigger"puzzle" of assessment data-Jenny would like to share
this information with this council. Information about MCAS will be also shared as
a whole staff. Grades 3-5 presently know. SIMS and EPIMS are programs which
show data of both students and teachers. DESE has profile pages of school
level and sub group performance-not teacher performance. PLC and teacher
groups are reviewing their respective data. Discussion was about if data driven
evaluations for teachers are in the future.
• Next Generation MCAS/ Legacy MCAS slides: Defined the tests and gave
information about criteria and Bowman results (examples of Bowman data
include, not meeting expectations in mathematics was 5% and 2% in grades 3,4,
31%, presentation of data in grades 3-5 who are high needs was also discussed
which reflected notable high need of not meeting expectations).
• Student Growth: (SGP): 40-50 is considered moderate growth: Bowman had
very high growth in this area in both English Language Arts and Mathematics
• Purpose of MCAS: Used to judge curriculum effectiveness, looking at sub
groups and used to discuss and consider local data with MCAS data
• Standard measures slide: Shows strands of mathematics and ELA and how
Bowman, district and state compare
• Legacy MCAS Science slide was presented to show the data for 2015-2018 for
Bowman
